Washington College Students visit ESAHEC
ESAHEC hosted six Washington College students for a day on January 18th for their winter Externship/Shadowing Program. The goal of the program is to provide students opportunities outside of the classroom to explore career choices and network with health care professionals.
Students spent the day learning about the AHEC mission, discussing the imbalances in our healthcare system regarding supply, distribution, retention, and quality of primary care and other health practitioners in medically underserved areas which includes the Eastern Shore. Each of the AHEC staff spoke with the students about the programs they coordinate and how they support the AHEC mission.
Highlights of the day were the open discussion with Carlos Rivera, University of Maryland medical student who is currently completing his AHEC rotation on the Shore, he shared his experiences as a medical student and answered many questions from the students.
Also, participating in the Aging Simulation Sensitivity Training provided the students with an insight into what it is like to live every day as an older adult experiencing sensory deprivation.
