YOUTH CONNECTIONS

2017
Dear Boys & Girls Club of the Redwoods Supporter:
http://givebgc.org/
Summer is an amazing time for creating memories, learning through discovery, and making new friends. If we stop and think about that statement, this is true regardless if those memories made are constructive or destructive. Boys & Girls Clubs strive to make the most of summer for young people by providing positive, enriching experiences, led by professionally trained staff. Help the Club create opportunities for all young people to learn and grow into productive citizens for our community to thrive. Please consider supporting the Club with a contribution that helps us reach more kids every day right here on the North Coast.

MemorableMoments

Career Fair Returns for 2nd Year
The Eureka Teen Center hosted its 2nd Annual Career Fair in May with representation from many local businesses including Eureka Police Department, Humboldt State University, and St. Joseph Health. Teens were able to learn about careers they may have not considered, at an important time when many are contemplating their next steps after high school.
Intern Appreciation
Boys & Girls Club of the Redwoods has been very fortunate to have interns from HSU work with us every year. It's a sad day when we arrive at the end of their semester, and it's time for them to move on. These young adults make an incredible impact on our kids, and we are so appreciative to have had them working in our Clubs.
Teen Court 16th Annual Art Show
Our Teen Court program hosted their 16th Annual Second Chances Art Show in May, at the historic Eureka Theater. This year the show featured photos of youth speaking out about what they think are critical youth justice issues and what youth empowerment looks like. The Art Show is Teen Court's main fundraiser, this year bringing in over $12,000. Special thank you to Jonathan and Erin Flyer for major underwriting support.

Did you miss the show? Catch a slideshow on YouTube, or visit the Humboldt County Library in Eureka where the show is currently on display.
Club Kids Celebrate National Police Week
May 15th marked the beginning of this year's National Police Week. Members from the Eureka Clubhouse took time to thank our local officers and staff at Eureka Police Department for all they do in our community. The kids baked cookies, and hand delivered them during a tour of the downtown station.

Scouting and the Club

Boys & Girls Club of the Redwoods has teamed up with the local Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts to offer programs for elementary youth at our Eureka Clubhouse. These programs have become very popular for our kids, who get excited when they arrive on the day that scouting activities are scheduled to happen. Thank you to both organizations for providing extra support so that our Club kids can partake in these character building programs.

Do you know someone in Scouts? These programs are always in need of volunteers to help our members with their various activities. Call our Eureka Clubhouse at (707) 442-9142 to find out how you can get involved!

Davy Jones' Locker Challenges YOU!
Do you have what it takes to escape from Davy Jones' Locker? Team up with family or friends against a series of challenges to escape before your time runs out! Great fun for all ages (suggested for 16 and up due to the challenge level, though children are welcome with parents).

Lost Coast Escape Rooms will set up at the McKinleyville Teen & Community Center during the Pony Express Days Festival, Saturday, June 3rd. Reserve your space online at https://squareup.com/store/lostcoastescaperooms/

Proceeds benefit McKinleyville teen programs for Boys & Girls Club of the Redwoods. Don't miss it!
Camp Odyssey Returns to Arcata
Camp Odyssey returns to Arcata this summer offering unique experiences for 9-12 year old youth. Members participate in a variety of STEM and environmental activities. Assistance is needed from the community to provide scholarships for youth to participate in this program. Click here to support Camp Odyssey this summer

ThankYou

Thank you 6 Rivers Brewery for choosing the Club as the beneficiary for May's Pints for Non-Profits. Funds raised from this event will be used to serve teens in McKinleyville at the Teen & Community Center.
Thank you Humboldt County McDonald's for hosting Grub for the Club in May, where a portion of sales went to the Boys & Girls Club. Funds raised help us serve elementary-aged kids at our Eureka Clubhouse, an average of 85 per day!
