When the system breaks

The headlines this morning are amazing--racial tension, war games in Los Angeles, the courts fighting the White House on illegal immigration, Social Security spending equating to over $6.300 for every American with a job, law enforcement can use Google to track your every move, Christianity facing middle East purge within a decade--and the list goes on and on. These are not good things. The system, the world for that matter, but the system in the United States is being stressed every day. The social system with racial and immigration strife is stressed. The economic system with financial overload of debt is stressed. What happens when the system breaks and chaos is the order of the day? What is your response?

Aside from the politics of it, take my word for it: no politician or government is going to be a savior to the people. When the system breaks, it will seem that all has gone dark. It may not be like the apocalyptic scenes in Mad Max, but it isn't going to look pretty. You are going to need to think about personal and family security, supplies of and trading of essentials such as food, sense of community, who to trust, new ways to get along. People are going to be more frustrated and angry than they currently are. Navigating a broken system will require a good deal of wisdom, discernment, and courage. People are going to have a lot of questions. Life will become dependent on something more than who you are and a college degree.

How long will it take before the system breaks? We don't know. We do know that the decisions of poor leadership over the past decade has brought the country to the brink of breaking. We need to be prepared. But I am not talking about being prepared in the sense of storing up a year's supply of food, munitions, etc. Do that at your own discretion. I'm talking about being prepared for the darkness. Yes, the electric may be off in some places, but the darkness in a nation with a broken system is far darker than a lack of electricity. There will be spiritual darkness, even darker than today. It will be in this time that we will need to cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.

When the system breaks, people will be seeking answers. As Jesus said in Matthew 5, "You are the salt of the earth...the light of the world...Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Paul says in Romans 13:13-14, "Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying, But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lust thereof." When the system breaks, the country club atmosphere of the contemporary "Church" will be tested and questioned. True Christians will have the answer people are seeking, in spirit and in truth. Are you ready for when the system breaks?
