Within a few minutes of opening Facebook, you are sure to find a lost dog post, or two. Why do dogs leave their home, the place that holds all the food, love and belly rubs that they could possibly want?
There are a few reasons that dogs get lost.
Adventure- Your dog’s curiosity will get the better of him (it’s not just what killed the cat). New smells, sounds, and sights are an enticing reason to investigate. As soon as that new thing is figured out, there is something new to check out that is just a little bit farther away. The cycle repeats until your pet has no way to find its way back.
Reproductive Drive- Pets that are left intact have a higher likely hood of leaving their yard. The instinct to reproduce is strong enough to make your pet forget about the rule to stay home.
Fear- Not all pets have a sense of adventure, and like exploring, some pets are afraid.
