Banner Elk Welcomes
Father Deogratias Mwikira

At Concert In the Park last night at Tate-Evans Park
Karen and Frank Wimbush with Father Mwikira

"Father Deogratias has come from Tanzania to do a Mission Appeal at our church to build 50 houses, over 3 years, for the poorest of the poor. Each completed house would cost $900. We had a reception for him the other night at Azalea Inn, and that was a lot of fun..

"We have taken him to Grandfather Mountain and the real bears didn't come out, but we saw the statue of Mildred the Bear. We went on a picnic by a mountain stream. Last night we went to the concert in the park and that was a cultural experience for him. He is a real pleasure to have around."
- Karen and Frank Wimbush.

"Big Foot" at Avery County Humane Society
We call this guy "Big Foot". He was found stray. We think he is around 8 years old? He is very calm and gentle. We are hoping someone may know his owners and let them know he was brought in and wants to come home. Please help us find his family. If they don't come forward Big Foot will make someone a wonderful and loyal friend. 828-733-2333
