Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful winter break and enjoyed some quality family time. It's been a great first week back from winter break. The teachers have been reviewing procedures and routines with students. Students and staff are ready for a great 2 nd semester!!!
2015 ISTEP Results: The Indiana Department of Education released ISTEP scores to all school corporations in the state.  There are 290 public school corporations in Indiana.  The results that follow represent our ISTEP performance on the spring 2015 administration of that assessment when compared to all other public schools in the state.
  • Overall pass rate for combined math and language arts:  3rd in the state (our highest ranking ever)
  • Overall pass rate for language arts: 4th in the state (our highest ranking ever)
  • Overall pass rate for math: 1st in the state (our highest ranking ever)
We are so proud of our students for their high achievement and celebrate the efforts of our staff who work tirelessly to help our students grow and achieve at a high level. We also appreciate all the wonderful parent support we receive each day from our great volunteers we have in the building to the countless parents who take time to review math facts, check homework daily, and read with their child at night. It definitely is a team effort.
Report Cards: Report cards are now available through Powerschool. Please log on and check out your child's report for the 2 nd 9 weeks. Kindergarten report cards were sent home today in a manila envelope. Please sign and return your child's report card with the envelope by Friday, January 22nd if possible.

Thanks! Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Susan Wise

The next steps on your student's educational journey...
Brownsburg teachers and staff work every day to make sure your student is having a positive experience in school, and we know you are mindful of your student's current and future educational journey.  Join us January 21, 2016 as Brownsburg Community School Corporation Assistant Superintendent, Kat Jessup, and Brownsburg High School Principal, Bret Daghe, share information about the many opportunities your student will be able to experience as they move forward from elementary to middle school to high school.  Mrs. Jessup and Mr. Daghe will cover a variety of topics including: the different diploma types offered, Advanced Placement classes, Dual College Credit, Area 31 technical offerings, secondary math progression, fine arts, club opportunities, job training for life skills students, and more.  We hope you can make it for this discussion to help prepare your family for what's next.
High Ability Identification for 2016-2017
Identification for High Ability programming for the next school year will begin later this month and be concluded by Spring Break. In 1 st grade, students who met specific criteria on the CogAT administered in November, will proceed further in the identification process and parent permission will be required for further assessment which will occur in February. Results of the CogAT are available from the school counselor, if requested. Identification of 5 th grade students for middle school placements will begin in February and parent permission will be required for Language Arts assessments. All 5 th grade students will participate in math placement assessments. A parent whose child has not been recommended for the assessment process but has evidence of strong, high ability qualities/performance, should contact the school principal to discuss the appropriateness of assessment. Additional questions about the High Ability program can be directed to Julie Van Liew, Coordinator of Curriculum and Special Programs at 852-5726.

PTO News to Know
General Meeting - Our next PTO meeting will be Tuesday, Jan 12th at 6:30pm. We understand attending meetings are hard as families have so much going on. If you have submitted your email to the PTO, we are going to start sending monthly email updates following each meeting. If you would like to be on the email list please contact Alison Moyars (alisonpto@yahoo.com).

PIZZA SALES - You hopefully received a letter and flyer home this week for Little Caesar Pizza Kit sales. This is our first year doing the sales and thought they might be a great addition to any upcoming Super Bowl Parties or a fun and easy dinner any night of the week. With everything from deep dish to thin crust, cheese bread and cookies too! For every 5 kits a student sells, he/she will be entered in a mystery prize drawing. The more kits purchased, the more entries they will get! Orders are due by January 19th and the pick-up date will be on January 28th. These kits do require refrigeration, so make room in your freezer! If you have any questions, please contact Kristin Taylor (kmcoffey820@aol.com)

Buddy Bench Project - There is a collection box in the main lobby for you to send in plastic caps! Green Tree Plastics is a company that transforms bottle caps into benches that will last a lifetime. The PTO is saving to purchase two 4 ft benches for the playground area. We need 400lbs of plastics lids! That equals ten full 55 gallon trash bags! Please save: LIDS/CAPS from medicine bottles, drink bottles, milk cups, condiments, detergent, shampoo/conditioner, hairspray, toothpaste, medicine, deodorant,
cottage cheese, yogurt, sour cream,
mayonnaise, coffee, cream cheese, peanut butter, ice cream buckets, Cool Whip and ANY cap/lid with Recycle Numbers of (2) ( 4) (5).  DON'T send in: any cap with metal, trigger sprays, lotion/soap pumps or fast food drink lids.

Staff Appreciation - We are recruiting volunteers to help Mrs. Copeland provide our teachers a little break during her Reading Challenge Celebration on Wednesday, January 13th.
