City Charging Ahead --  6 More Vehicle Charging Stations To Be Plugged in Soon
Charging Station at
Lyon Place Garage
White Plains recently received a $26,400 state grant to install electric car chargers in three more parking garages, bringing the total number of charging stations in the city to 30.

Five years into the installation program, "White Plains is fast becoming an electric vehicle model for others to follow," says John Markowitz of the New York Power Authority.  The City currently has 20 charging stations (click here for locations) which have been used for 1,119 hours so far this year. In addition, 20% of the City's vehicle fleet is now electric, and as the vehicles reach the end of their useful life they will be replaced with electric models.
History is a Just a Short Walk Away.
Discover the City's  Historic Walking Loops
The City Clerk's Office and the Recreation and Parks Department have created historic walking loops which highlight White Plains' rich history. These loops make for fun and interesting walks and are a great way to get your exercise and gain some local historical knowledge at the same time!

The walking loops are great for both individuals and families. There are three to explore  -- Battle Hill, Purdy Farm & Hill and Tibbits Park
Library Launches Teen Do Gooders Club
With support from The Allstate Foundation, the White Plains Public Library has begun a new teen-directed program dedicated to providing opportunities for local teens to be involved in "doing good" in the Library and community.

The Do Gooders is a service-focused club for grades 7-12 which m eets in the Edge.  The Do Gooders is a way for teens to earn volunteer service hours for school or clubs or to just make a difference in the community.

Since September, the Do Gooders have created upcycled cat toys for the SPCA and have met to plan for future service projects which will include making holiday cards for veterans through the Red Cross and donating hand-made earrings to a women's shelter.  For more information about the Do Gooders contact Edge Librarian Kathlyn Carroll.
Nominate a Volunteer for Recognition
White Plains is home to many amazing volunteers who share their time and skills to improve our community.

Each spring, Volunteer N ew York! recognizes a distinguished group of volunteers who have done
extraordinary work in Hudson Valley communities.
Volunteers are nominated in six categories and an independent  panel of judges selects one person or group for each category.

If you would like to nominate a deserving White Plains volunteer for a 2018 Volunteer Spirit Award, click here   All applications must be received by Monday, December 4, 2017.
