Do you have any comments on Lane Tech High School's recent change of their "motto" to "The School of Champions"?
Everyone cannot be a Dolphin! The "School of Champions" slogan first started for the school that won the most city championships.  I checked my graduation speeches for the past 3 years and these are the facts:
2014 - 9 city championships
2015 - 12 city championships
2016 - 12 championships

There are 31 city championships for the city each year! Over the past 10 years Whitney Young has earned the title of  "The School of Champions" 8 times.  We have tied for the title once and runner-up once.

Anyone can claim a motto, however it takes consistent hard work on the part of our students, parents, faculty, coaches, and staff to achieve this designation!   I know this is going to create some controversy with Lane but we do welcome a friendly rivalry.  Remember the new principal is a former Dolphin (former Social Science teacher and Dean) who I trained.  He knows who the real "School of Champions" are :).

Have you ever thought to color code or "brand" the maze that is on the first floor of the Academic Center? It is very confusing when you are walking through there and not knowing what direction to go or if you have been down that hall or not already because they all look the same.
I checked with some other administrators and we actually love this idea.  If there is any person who is interested in helping us formalize a plan of action or donate their time or supplies please email me.

Will SAT/ACT Prep also be available to sophomores?
No.  Our prep sessions are tailored to current junior students.  Counselors can provide SAT/ACT prep information for all other students.

I am a sophomore student and we did not have sex education as part of our Health curriculum from last year.  Is there going to be any presentations for our class this year.  Also what are you doing for the incoming 9th grade students who will be taking Health?
We will include a special sex education unit that will be taught to all sophomore classes from January 17 through February 2, 2017.  This unit will be taught to all current sophomore classes by their Physical Education teachers.  In addition all freshman classes will have a sex education unit as part of their 2nd semester Health class.

Based on new Board policy, any parent can choose to opt out their child from this sex education unit.  A letter must be submitted to their child's Physical Education teacher prior to the unit beginning. Please contact your child's Physical Education teacher, if you have questions regarding the course content.
Do you have a question for Dr. Kenner?  Submit your question here.
Note: By submitting your question, you agree that the question and answer will be published and sent to the whole school community. Not all questions will be able to be answered/published.  If you have an immediate concern, please contact the Main Office during regular school hours at (773) 534-7500.
