Upcoming Events
Jog-a-thon & Playground Celebration - Friday, June 8th!
The 2nd Annual Jog-A-Thon is Friday June 8. Because we've been able to fully fund (thanks to you!) all of our PTA initiatives, we are dedicating the first $10,000 raised to our sister school, Bailey Gatzert, to fund classroom, communication, curriculum and family support initiatives.

It's super easy to help your racer set up an online pledge form. Follow the link below and scroll down to the bottom left and look for "Add Participant." The online form works best if each kid has his/her own page. (The old-school donation envelope that should've come home last week works just fine too! You can drop that off on Friday.)

Last year, we learned the Jog-A-Thon is a great way for grandparents, aunts and uncles, family friends, and neighbors to show their support for your student's efforts. Join us on Friday if you can to cheer on our joggers. And don't forget, we're having a big community party after school that day to officially launch the new playground. Live music! Food! Fun! You'll definitely want to stay after school this time!

Whittier Summer Book Swap
To promote reading throughout the summer, we will be having a book swa p in the library the last two weeks of school. I am asking each student to bring in one used book to exchange for a new-to-them book to read over the summer. If you have additional books to donate, it would be greatly appreciated! If we have enough donations, students will be able to select more than one book and they will have more of a selection to pick from. Books remaining after the book swap will be added to new teacher classrooms, to the book exchange outside the office, or donated.
Some things to consider:
  • Books should be appropriate reading for grades K-5 (picture books, early readers, non-fiction, chapter books)
  • No adult books, magazines or board books please
  • Books should be in good to excellent condition (no rips, stains, missing pages, or writing in them)
We can start accepting books for the swap on Monday, June 4th. If you have any questions or would like to donate extra books, please contact me at [email protected].
Thank you! Ms. Newcomb

Wanted: Lunch & Recess Volunteers
Lunch and recess times provide important social, emotional and physical breaks for our students. We are at lunch and on the playground with your children everyday but can always use extra help to:

·  Monitor play to ensure safety
·  Help students with playground equipment
·  Assist students who are learning new games and social settings
·  Referee sports games on the playground
·  Encourage kids to eat
·  Remind students to stay in their seats
·  Open food containers
·  Assist students with cleaning up and putting away their lunches
·  Grant bathroom permissions

Volunteering at lunch and/or recess is a fun way to help out, and a great way to be involved in your child's school day!
