Refresh Your Work

How you talk to yourself, whether internally or externally, can have a dramatic impact
on your work life. Note carefully what you say to yourself about the job you're working on and whether you feel confident and competent to do a great job. If you don't, discern what is creating the feeling of unease; then move forward well informed.

Refresh Your Home

 What does your home environment
say about you? Is it cluttered and messy or organized and put together in a pleasing fashion? Is there an area that you feel uncomfortable with? Determine what change, if any, that you can make to bridge the gap between a uneasy home message and an authentic one.

For Your Journal

Journaling Tip:

Recognize the inner wisdom you already possess as you talk to yourself in your journal, ask questions and get answers.

Q: Are you ever surprised by what answers you receive when you ask questions in your journal and talk to yourself in the process?

I love it when I take the time to ask a question and get an immediate answer to what I'm wondering about. Some of the responses I have received have been surprising, with a gentle cadence that I didn't expect. I see the different sides of myself as I converse in my journal.

THE ARTIST
My art journal is another one of my favorite places to have a discourse with myself, whether it's the color I choose to paint with, the choice words I stamp to the page, or the collages I create.

My pages speak to me in ways different than other sources of information or my own verbal self talk.

Working with different media to express yourself gives you more choices to work with and gives your subconscious mind a chance to come to the fore with hidden wisdom I refer to as gold.

How will you express yourself differently today?

Special Thanks to:
#JournalChat special guest, journal keeper, and author,
for her support and featuring a blog post on the latest session of #JournalChat Live.
Greetings!

You do it when you're going about your day, mostly, probably without even realizing it, since it comes naturally.

But it's a different story when you're out in public, like say, in a grocery store. Someone may notice and look at you funny.

Yes, we all talk to ourselves at one time or another.

(Sometimes if we do when someone else is around, they may ask us, "Who are you talking to?" Especially if they think we're talking to them!)

It can help with problem solving as we figure out what to do with this or how to go about doing that...

It can also help us think through a conversation or help us manage stress when we're hit blind-sided.

But sometimes that Self Talk can get a bit rough, especially when we make a mistake that we can't go back and change. So we're not usually talking very nicely to or about ourselves.

So it can help to balance this out with a positive focus on what you did right. Verbal Affirmations can work wonders, especially if you really believe what you say.

What we say aloud, even if we're just talking to ourselves unawares, can initiate some powerful energy, whether positive or negative. Just having that awareness can be helpful, so we can catch the negative before it turns into something bigger than we'd like.

Even the written word can have a powerful influence on our perspective and how we do life. We can even talk to ourselves on the page, getting feedback from our day, asking questions and getting some wise answers in reply.

We touched on this possibility during our recent session of #JournalChat Live with special guest, Juliet Platt with our topic, Your Journaling: Self Talk. Highlights are below.

Also included are refreshing tips for your work and your home, plus a classic song by Lionel Richie titled, "Say You, Say Me."

The next time you find yourself talking out loud, remember the power of your words, and deliberately choose to create a self-empowering vibe that supports who you really are and can initiate the development of leaving your powerful mark in the world.

And thanks for making Refresh Journal part of that power.

Be refreshed,

JournalChat Pick of the Week:
Taking fear out of the equation, what do you want less of and more of in your life? Have you ever used your journal to do an assessment of where you are and where you'd like to be in all of life's dimensions?
Terri provides a fabulous journaling exercise to help you determine what is working for you and what is standing in your way of getting/creating the life you want. It's worth the time to take a closer look at the quality of our life experience and how we can make it better, more authentic, and purposeful.
For this week's #JournalChat Live, we will discuss how we can use our journals to really dig deeper into all areas of our lives to determine what we need to let go of and what we need more of to bring our experience into alignment with who we really are and what we really want out of life. Our topic will be Your Journaling: More or Less?
You're welcome to read this post prior to the Live chat on Thursday, and perhaps write an entry about how you could use your journal to determine what you want less or more of to increase the quality of your life experience. You're welcome to share any discoveries you've made during our chat.
So join us on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 5 p.m. EST (2 p.m. PST) for #JournalChat Live on Twitter. Be sure to use the #JournalChat hashtag in your tweet! I recommend tweetchat.com.
Highlights from #JournalChat Live
Our topic for #JournalChat Live this past week was Your Journaling: Self Talk as we discussed using our journals to start a conversation or ask a questions and get an answer from ourselves. Highlights are below.

Here are insights from our special guest, Juliet Platt and with her post, "Dear Journal" Journaling Insights #2:
I didn't use to think too much about who was "listening" to my journaling, and I got into trouble! I started a brand new journal and wrote for pages about all my stuff- pretty dreadful to read- without "introducing" myself. As I've recently found just venting or ranting in my journal has limited use unless I evoke the "listener" and ask its advice. When we find ourselves rehashing and experiencing a level of impatience with [a problem], that's the time to ask the question. I recently read that as soon as we allow ourselves to enquire, then we can become calm. When we don't ask and we stay in our "me" point of view, it can get exhausting.

Here's my point of view and insight:

Who do you talk to when you write in your journal? It's an interesting question; helps us see our journaling objective. As a summary journal writer, I don't always think about Who I'm addressing; I just go with the flow most of the time. Once I began asking questions about issues, I was amazed with how easily I heard the answer and wrote it down. I think once we address a topic or issue or ask a question, the Who becomes a bit more relevant. Addressing ourselves in our journals can be interesting, due to the many hats we wear and the issues we grapple with. Sometimes I ask a question, and the tone or quality of the voice I'm writing TO is different from the one I'm hearing FROM. The amazing thing about talking to oneself in your journal is the surprising depth and wisdom that results.

From Madeline Sharples:

I usually write my lists to remind myself what I have to do. My journals are always conversations with myself even when I'm ranting. I'm motivated now to ask the crucial questions.

  From Susan Ekins:

We often look for the answers outside oursleves but we know what's best for us. I like Juliet's comment that "none of the stuff I'd written down was new." Sometimes I rehash the same stuff. I especially get frustrated when YEARS later, I'm still rehashing the same thing. Sometimes I address my entries to God and sometimes I hear a brief reply.

And to Summarize:

Don't forget to try out new voices. And find new listeners to whom to address your inquiries. They hold our wisdom within. (J.P.)

Talk to yourself, whatever role you're playing, in your journal and see what answers you receive to your most pressing life issues.
