HOW DID WE GET SO LUCKY?

FACT RECOGNIZES DONORS AND GRANTORS
Virginia Beach Youth Services Club (VB-YSC)

The Virginia Beach Youth Service Club (VBYSC) is a local non-profit organization that raises money specifically for charities that support children in Virginia Beach. In their 40 years of existence, they have worked tirelessly to support under-privileged and disabled children by hosting large-scale fundraisers that they organize and run entirely themselves.
For 5 years now, FACT has been the beneficiary of the VBYSC's charitable ways. This year, because of their support, FACT will be supplementing our Sports Programs with two additional leagues and more equipment. The addition of these programs will also increase the number of children we serve, boosting that number to 90 local athletes with autism.  Sports reinforce the skills that children with autism need. Not only do they benefit from the aspects of socialization, communication, and visual learning; but being part of a team increases independence and confidence. Additionally, interaction with peer volunteers is an invaluable motivator that easily translates to other walks of life, such as playing more successfully with siblings and friends, creating the desire to further pursue a hobby, or instilling the importance of healthy competition.

Each year, the VBYSC hosts a tremendous fund raiser which enables them to continue supporting local children's charities in Virginia Beach, like FACT!. This event is so popular that it bears no need for advertisement, as tickets sell out every year.  This year's YSC Pig and Oyster Bash will kick off the summer on Saturday, April 29th at Camp Pendleton. P urchase your tickets before they're gone!

FACT RECOGNIZES THE MOVERS AND SHAKERS:

Atta Girl Miss Pam

This month, Executive Director of FACT, Pam Clendenen, was chosen to receive the Virginia Beach Mayor's Committee for Persons with Disabilities Award. This prestigious recognition is awarded annually to those who display an outstanding commitment to improving the lives of citizens with disabilities in Virginia Beach. For those of you who know Pam, you are probably not surprised that she was chosen for this honor. That's because one of the best parts about being human is human nature, and our own good nature dictates that we get a warm and fuzzy feeling when good things happen to deserving people. This begs the question, what makes Pam Clendenen deserving? Why is she set apart from the rest?
