The Parkinsons Support Group of the Finger Lakes will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday September 27th 1PM at Wood Library (134 N. Main Street, Canandaigua).  This month's speaker is Amy Chesire, a social worker from the University of Rochester NPF Center of Excellence, who will present an overview of the common communication barriers and emotional challenges that arise in families living with PD. Low-cost, five-course, fine dining will be offered to the public on several Friday evenings, starting Sept. 29, when the Finger Lakes Community College culinary arts program resumes restaurant nights for the fall semester.
  
Called Dinner at Julia - in honor of Julia Child - restaurant nights give students hands-on experience under the supervision of their instructors. Diners have a choice of two menus, each with a soup, appetizer, salad, entrée and dessert and coffee.
  
The cost of $40 per person, including tax and tip, covers food and supplies for the program. Dinners are served in Stage 14 on the second floor of the Student Center, 3325 Marvin Sands Drive at the main campus. Following the Sept. 29 opening, restaurant nights will also be held on Oct. 6, 13, 20, and 27; Nov. 3 and Dec. 1.

Clucks for Bucks Chicken Barbecue THIS Thursday
"Clucks for Bucks," the annual chicken barbecue to benefit palliative care at the M.M. Ewing Continuing Care Center, is set for Thursday, Sept. 28, in parking lot B of Crosswinds Wesleyan Church, 3360 Middle Cheshire Road in Canandaigua. The barbecue starts at 3 p.m. and continues until the chicken is sold out. The meals, by Grove Boys Catering of Naples, are $10 each and will include a marinated half chicken, salt potatoes, coleslaw and a dinner roll. A 50/50 raffle held during the barbecue will raise additional funds. Palliative Care at M.M. Ewing includes comforting items such as handmade quilts and CDs with soothing music as well as iPads for video chats with long-distance family members. In addition, the program provides information for families regarding the end-of-life process and a "comfort cart" for families keeping vigil - with bottled water, snacks and toiletries. Special furniture is also provided, for family members who wish to stay overnight alongside their loved one.

Healing Pathways Program to Begin Soon
"Healing Pathways," a program offered by UR Medicine Thompson Health for those with ongoing illnesses or other sources of chronic stress, will begin soon, with the option of a Tuesday evening series or a Thursday afternoon series. Tuesday sessions will take place from 6:30 to 9 p.m., Sept. 26 through Nov. 28, at Ferris Hills at West Lake on Peg Rayburn Drive in Canandaigua.  The Thursday sessions will take place from 1 to 3:30 p.m., Sept. 28 through Nov. 30, in the Ewing Room at Wood Library, 134 N. Main St. in Canandaigua. Presented by the Rev. Dr. Richard McCaughey and certified holistic stress management instructor Jennifer Klein, the program focuses on wholeness of mind, body and spirit through the reshaping of thoughts, emotions and stress responses.
