Expressions: Spring
painting, sculpture & photography

As part of the Spring Artisans' Show, this week-long curated multimedia gallery exhibit featuring a local photographer, a sculptor, and two painters will show in the Cass Gilbert Carriage Barn. This exhibit is curated by Captiva Arts.

Lisa Cohen
Photographer

Influenced by the work of contemporary photographers such as Irving Penn, Cecil Beaton, Elliot Erwitt, Alfred Eisenstaedt, and Horst P. Horst, and a love for horses, Lisa strives to capture the natural elegance of the people and animals that she photographs in the environments that they actually live and play in.

LeaAnn Cogswell
Sculptor

A sculptor whose main love affair is with the human figure. Devoted to the study of the power that lies within the human form, she says, "I consider it a great privilege to work regularly from life. Infinitely varied, the human figure is fascinating and amazingly beautiful, even in all its not-so-perfect forms. A powerful visual subject, it always holds new surprises."

Spencer Eldridge
Painter

Eldridge renewed his passion for painting in oils in 2002 after spending time in the woods in upstate New York. He paints en plein air (in the open air) in order to capture the ever changing effects of light as it falls upon nature. Recently, Spencer's work has taken on aspects of chiaroscuro (Italian for light-dark) as he builds the paintings from the shadows, layer by layer, into the light.

Oscar Andy Hammerstein
Painter

Painter, writer, lecturer, and family historian, Hammerstein has devoted much of his life to studying and preserving his family's heritage and their contribution to American culture. Currently on hiatus from teaching at Columbia University, he is devoting his time to painting.
