President Trump Should Appoint Johnnie Moore to Top Religious Freedom Post

by Rev. Samuel Rodriguez via The Christian Post

Earlier this month the elite of largely-liberal Hollywood filed into the famous International Ballroom of The Beverly Hilton, in part to honor an evangelical advocate for persecuted Christians. That evening, Johnnie Moore received the prestigious "medal of valor" from the Simon Wiesenthal Center - one of the most significant human rights organizations in the world - moments before the same award was given posthumously to the Nobel laureate and co-founder of the modern state of Israel, Shimon Peres.

Rev. Moore followed a prolonged standing ovation by dedicating his award to persecuted Christians in Iraq and Syria even while calling that erudite crowd to do more to protect them. Rarely in our modern time has one of our Christian brethren been honored in such a way and in front of such a crowd.

Choose Greatness

I was scheduled to speak at a convention in Los Angeles. Several thousand people were expected and I was excited about the opportunity to give a positive Christian message to the audience.

I arrived at the airport and exited to a specific location where a car was waiting for me. The driver was a Hispanic young man who welcomed me warmly. I liked him immediately.

We left the airport and after we entered the main highway I decided to find out more about the young man who was helping me.

Aaron's sons Nadab and Abihu tooktheir censers, put fire in them and added incense; and they offered unauthorized fire before the LORD, contrary to his command. - Leviticus 10:1

The Torah portion for this week is Shemini, which means "eighth," from Leviticus 9:1-11:47, and the Haftorah is from 2 Samuel 6:1-7:17.

When it comes to advice, most people are fairly quick to give it, but not so fast to take it. What a better place the world would be if the opposite were true!

In our Torah portion this week, we read about the tragic deaths of Nadab and Abihu. What made their deaths so tragic was not just that they occurred on a day that was meant to be celebratory or because they were the righteous sons of Aaron. What made their deaths so disturbing is that they were totally unnecessary. The two brothers erred and brought death upon themselves.
