Greetings!
I believe in my last newsletter I reported that we were having spring rain. Nothing new to report as we are still having spring rain in the Walla Walla Valley, but there is plenty to report on here at the W5.
As you know the new website,Wild Walla Walla Wine Woman is up and running. We have so many new wines to list I cannot keep up! "Too many wines, so little time!" In a weak moment I realized I cannot do everything, so I have recruited some help to get our large and growing selection online. New wines from Walla Walla, Oregon, California, France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Lebanon, Morocco (Morocco?) and more!
"More" even includes a selection of specialty beers, ales, mead, and sake has hit our shelves. Beers and ales such asTrappist beers, German, West Coast artisan brews such as Brother Thelonious and and some Scottish delights such as the Kilt Lifter, Fraoch Heather Ale, and yee ol' Skull Splitter and -- well, more!
Always arriving are new wine-related gifts, assorted gourmet packaged foods, cheeses, chocolates and even W5 logo T-shirts, aprons and posters. So keep checking our website, and better yet, drop by the shop to see all of the newest additions!
To wish the summer on, besides our morning dance ritual to the sun, we have been buying (and drinking) lots of cool and crisp rosés. The W5 is here to defend the reputation of "pretty in pink" wines. This charming pink-hued wine has had to overcome a somewhat sullied reputation with its resemblance to cringe-worthy "White Zinfandel." Rosé is made from just about every red grape you can think of and most popular in France's Rhône and Loire Valleys. Walla Walla is now on the rosé-making-bandwagon and they are lovely! Check out our extravagant pink selection of local and imports. We keep a few chilled so you can immediately enjoy them from your back porch or favorite picnic spot. To quote a local Walla Walla winemaker: Yes, you can drink rosé and still be a bad *ss.
Have you been to one of our wine tasting events? If not, you are not only missing on some great tastes, but some wine education, as well. Can't think of a better way to learn but with a full glass.
- Around the World with Sauvignon Blanc - We are celebrating my birthday, so I can taste any wine I want that day! We are tasting one of my favorite white summer wines. Scot from Odom Distisbuting will be pouring a selection from various parts of the winemaking world. Wednesday, June 8, 5 - 7 pm. Yeah, yeah, yeah - there will be cake!
- Gilstrap Brothers Winery - Oregon's only winery east of the Cascade Mountains. And they have been picking up some awards! Wednesday, June 15, 5 -7 pm
- Sapolil Cellars - a small family owned and operated winery in the Walla Walla Valley creating world-class red wines. Wednesday, June 22, 5 -7 pm
- Rosés from Around the World - Mark from Noble Wines will be at the W5 tasting the pretty pink wines as mentioned above. Saturday, June 25, 2 - 4 pm
So join us at one of these events, or just drop by and continue to watch us grow!
And again and always, many thanks for your continued support! Cheers,
Catie and Miss Chloe-Bird
