Here we are again - approaching a new school year. Teachers have been busy learning new things and setting up classrooms, custodial staff have been busy preparing school buildings, and administrators have been busy hiring and training new staff. Fall athletes have descended upon the high school, and there's even been a touch of fall in the air. Chisago Lakes School District will be saying goodbye to Superintendent Joe Thimm and welcoming Dean Jennissen as the new superintendent in September. If you're also looking to change things up and want to join the CLSD team, there are job opportunities across the district.

Dean Jennissen Hired as the New Superintendent

After a couple rounds of interviews, in front of school board members, staff, and community members - Dean Jennissen, Dassel-Cokato high school principal, was approved as the new superintendent at the August 10th board meeting.

Jennissen will start with  Chisago  Lakes School District officially on September 1, but he has already been around the district office meeting staff and getting acclimated.

Superintendent Thimm will be officially retired September 29th, and Jennissen will take over leadership of the district.

You can learn more about Dean Jennissen in his "own words" as he introduces himself to the community.
Construction Planning Begins Following the Successful Bond Referendum Vote in May

One of the first things that happens after a successful bond referendum is more planning. Construction for the big projects - the Community Center and the new elementary school - is still a ways off with the bidding process coming up this fall and groundbreaking Spring of 2018. You will see some projects beginning - the new parking lot at Taylors Falls Elementary and the new tennis courts at the Middle School.  This summer has been busy for school staff, board members, and community members who have toured community centers and elementary schools and met several times - creating a list of criteria that the architects will work with to plan the new buildings. The "core" groups for each of these projects will change and expand to "user" groups for individual parts of the project - classrooms, food service, office space, etc. for the elementary school; Community Ed., coaching staff, and community members for the Community Center.

Continuing construction updates will appear in the Chisago County Press, the District School Review, and future electronic newsletters.
