We've got all sorts of good news this week - spelling bee updates, Wolf Ridge recap, student athletes headed to state, Signing Day, and the Home Show on the horizon. One thing you can see at the Home Show are floor plans and renderings for the new elementary school and Community Center. One of the aspects of the Community Center will be a place to highlight the district's rich history. If you have photos that show our past - school dances, activities, class field trips - use this form to share them with the whole community. You can send them in, drop them off, and have them scanned and returned to you.

Middle School Play: February 22 - 24

Young writer Steph Jenkins is home sick, so she's working on a new story for a big-league writing contest.  In her feverish condition, Lucky Hudson , Steph's crime-busting hero, appears and takes Steph into the comic underworld of zany gangsters, nightclubs, and back alleys.

Full of oddball criminals such as Big Al, Little Al, and Medium Al, Ma Cribbs, Mad Dog Myrtle, Two One Gun Tommy, Petty-Larceny Jane and more, Steph experiences thrilling hold-ups, a prison riot, and even her own sentencing to death row!

The bad guys are controlled by the most powerful figure in gangland, and it's up to Steph and Lucky to figure out who!  This is a fun escape into the noir style with loads of laughs and gags.

All performances are free and open to the public: Thursday at 9:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.; Friday at 12:15 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.; and Saturday at 2:00 p.m. All performances take place at the high school in the PAC.

School Board Appreciation Week Feb. 23-29
Front Row: Lori Berg, Dani Strenke, and Jerry Vitalis
Back Row: Mark Leigh, Tom Lawlor, and Brenda Carlson

The Chisago Lakes School District will join school districts throughout the state to salute their local education leaders during Minnesota's annual School Board Recognition Week February 19-23.  The commemorative week is designed to recognize the contributions made by Minnesota's school board members, including the (district name) School Board, who are charged with governing public education under state law.

Minnesota school board members are chosen by their communities through election or appointment to manage local schools. They oversee multimillion dollar budgets which fund education programs for more than 825,000 students in approximately 2,000 schools. Their personnel decisions affect more than 52,000 teachers and thousands of administrators and support workers.

These volunteer leaders also are responsible for formulating school district policy, approving curricula, maintaining school facilities, and adhering to state and federal education law. Legal concerns and the complexities of school finance, including budgeting and taxation, require them to spend many hours in board training programs and personal study to enhance their understanding of these issues.

Our deepest appreciation is extended to the dedicated men and women who make it possible for local citizens to participate in education in our community. We salute the public servants of the Chisago Lakes School Board whose commitment and civic responsibility make local control of public schools in our community possible: Chair Mark Leigh, Vice Chair Lori Berg, Treasurer Thomas Lawlor, Clerk Danielle Strenke, Director Jerry Vitalis, and Director Brenda Carlson.

ExploraDome Makes Another Trip Around the Galaxy

3rd graders from TF and Lakeside enjoyed a whole new view of the world.

The ExploraDome uses Uniview, a 3D atlas of the universe that is completely interactive and lets the presenter (and audience) determine where to go and what to see. Students were able to see the sun travel across the sky to simulate the course of a day. Outer reaches of the universe, as well as a planet or two, are stops along the way - checking out the constellations of stars that are both familiar and new to students.
