North Texas Giving Day - Thursday, September 22
News for the Parents of Saint Andrew Catholic School
SEPTEMBER 13, 2016
Happy Birthday Saint Andrew Catholic School!! Our school opened 62 years ago today with the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur and 270 students.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Families,

Happy IOWA Testing Week! As I write this, the hallways are completely silent while very focused Wildcats are bubbling in letters. As a reminder, as a Diocese we test in the Fall so that results can be used to drive instruction for the current year. These results help us determine our strengths and areas for improvement. As an entire faculty, we study these results and look for trends that help with curricular decisions and instructional strategies. Thank you for your efforts in getting your students to bed early, providing healthy breakfasts and setting them up for success. We'll get back into our regular routine next week!

Only By His Grace,
Veronica Tucker
Principal

SAS RUNNING CLUB
CALLING ALL RUNNERS
.. .

The SAS Running Club meets Thursday from 3:30pm - 4:10 p.m. starting September 15  (weather permitting). Activities are geared to help build muscular endurance and strength, as well as stretch key muscle groups, but most importantly, to have fun while being active.

We will train for the Cowtown 5k in February and the Wildcat Blast in May. All parents, students and staff are invited to join. A parent must be present with runners PK - 2nd grade (with enough parent volunteers, we can accommodate kids if a parent cannot attend).

There is a $20 fee that will include a tshirt and special tokens throughout the year. Please bring athletic clothes, tennis shoes and your water bottle to our club. We will meet at the gym to change and then walk out to the field. Parents will pick up at the field.

We will need volunteers to dot hands, record laps/times and to be at
stations throughout the field. Please click here to sign up. All volunteers must have completed Safe Environment Training within the last three years.

Students must turn in a signed permission slip to participate. Please click here to print the permission slip form.  Either turn it into the office or bring it on the 15th.   Make checks payable to SAS and write Running Club in the memo. Please join us for fun!

If you have any questions, please contact Coach Jarvis at [email protected]
LIVING THE WORD - TRADITION

What is a brief history of the Catechism?

The Catechism of the Catholic Church originated with a recommendation made at the Extraordinary Synod of Bishops in 1985. In 1986 Pope John Paul II appointed a Commission of Cardinals and Bishops to develop a compendium of Catholic doctrine. In 1989 the Commission sent the text to all the Bishops of the world for consultation. In 1990 the Commission examined and evaluated over 24,000 amendments suggested by the world's bishops. The final draft is considerably different from the one that was circulated in 1989. In 1991 the Commission prepared the text for the Holy Father's official approval. On June 25, 1992 Pope John Paul II officially approved the definitive version of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. On December 8, 1992 Pope John Paul II promulgated the Catechism with an apostolic constitution. USCCB

By now all Saint Andrew parents should have received their Annual Fund packets in the mail.  The Annual Fund is the gap fund that provides all the extra things in your child`s environment that we could not provide with just your tuition.

We encourage all SAS parents to give from their hearts to benefit all the children at SAS.  Extra packets can be picked up in the school office.  Thank you for sharing your blessings God has bestowed on your family.

Respondents were able to add comments in each section of the survey.  A summary of topics for the comments will be listed.  Discussions are taking place administratively as well as with the faculty to address the survey results and comments.  We thank you for your responses as we seek to continually improve.  Comments for this section were related to:

*As a new parent, I love the Wildcat Weekly and frequent emails. I also like the Parent Alerts--very helpful and was comforting the day of the bad storms.
*When incidents happen on campus with a student parents must be notified.
*Seems more organized and to the point vs. massive number of paper flyers etc. from the past. technology has helped this tremendously!
*Sometimes I'm not sure about the appropriate person to contact
*I have to say that I am very, very pleased with the strategy, methods, content and frequency of communications. I am involved in communications professionally am amazed at the quality of content coming from SAS, it exceeds what I see in corporate world many times. At times, it can seem like over-communication, but I would much, much rather have that than under-communication and so wouldn't change a thing.
*Teachers should provide monthly (ish) email updates about what is going on and what's to come.
*Bring back the parent teacher conferences
