News for the Parents of Saint Andrew Catholic School
August 16, 2016
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Families,

We made it through the first full week of school! Your children have been wonderful as we put a strong emphasis on tradition including faith formation, academic rigor and discipline.  We start each day with morning prayers led by our Student Body President with faculty and students leading prayers throughout the day. Impressive work is already being posted on bulletin boards. Homework is submitted on time. The students are quietly moving from class to class.

Tomorrow we all come together for our first Mass of the year hosted by our faculty. As always, we would love to have you there. Together, we ALL make up the Body of Christ. It is wonderful seeing our parents, grandparents and friends in attendance manifesting the partnership that Saint Andrew is all about. Please also mark your calendars for our first Advisory Council sponsored Parent Forum on Cyber Safety. This will take place on Monday, August 22nd at 6:30 in the Parish Hall. More information is below. This issue impacts all of us. I hope to see you there!

Only by His Grace,
Veronica Tucker

LIVING THE WORD - TRADITION
When did Living the Word begin?

The Living the Word theme began during the 2012-13 school year.  The idea was that we all come together at the school each day and be bound by a common theme or call to action to follow the word of Christ.   In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God   (John1:1).   We set out to live the word of God each day at Saint Andrew Catholic School.  That year, a word was chosen each week, coupled with a Bible verse, that contained the word or the concept.  Teachers were to discuss the word at school with students.  Parents were also encouraged to discuss the word and the scripture at home.

Our second theme was Prayer.  We learned when to pray, how to pray and the kinds of prayer.  We followed the liturgical calendar as we do each year and learned about specific prayers during the different times of year such as Advent and Lent.

The theme of Service followed for the 2014-15 school year.  This theme came naturally to Saint Andrew as it is part of our mission but more importantly it is second nature for our students, families and staff.  Students were encouraged to be of Service not only at school but in the community and in their very own homes.

Mercy  was our theme for last year as it coincided with the Pope's call to be merciful to all we encounter.

SPIRIT SHOP HOURS

The Spirit Shop will be open every Thursday at 7:30am and then again at 2:30pm.
PRAYER PARTNERS
Have you ever visited the school lunchroom or looked around at dismissal and thought, "I don't know how these teachers do it!" They are a true Godsend and praying for them is one of the simplest ways to fortify them in their work. Sign up to be a parent-teacher prayer partner and they will also be praying for you!

Many more prayer enthusiasts are needed for this special ministry and parents (moms  and dads), grandparents and friends are strongly encouraged to volunteer. Who doesn't need a few extra prayers? Plus it only takes a minute of your day.

We will partner you with a member of the school team, provide a prayer card as a visual reminder and send occasional tips for new ways to pray and deepen your faith. If you are called to volunteer, please email  Michelle Stavens.
