June 2, 2017
Dear Parents:
In the midst of our transition, change is a buzz word that is getting a lot of attention.  I don't believe that "change" is the concern, we do this everyday.  I do believe that "fear of the unknown" is our struggle.  In Isaiah, 41:10 it says, "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."  We do have much to fear, yet we have much to be clear about.  Our Lord has promised to be with us every step of the way. We can lean on Him as the fear of the unknown creeps in.  As you go about your summer, please know and believe that God is right beside you, even if it doesn't feel that way!

Thank You CPAL
We would like to extend a huge "thank you" to our CPAL parent group and all the support they have provided this past year to our students, teachers and staff. We are especially grateful for their financial assistance as we move our 4th and 5th grade classrooms to the Janesville Road campus and as we purchase new student tables for these classrooms. A mere "thank you" doesn't justify how blessed and grateful we are for your support!

CPAL Position Open
CPAL is currently looking for a volunteer to co-chair Hop 'n Shop next year.
Hop 'n Shop takes place the first weekend in December.  This event is an opportunity for fun and fellowship for school, church, and community families. CPAL members meet about once a month to review what is happening and discuss upcoming events. If you are interested in this position, please contact Cindy Lemerande at [email protected].

Prayers Needed
Mrs. Brenda Granley, one of our 5th grade teachers at the Elementary School, has received a call to teach 1st grade at Danville Lutheran School in Danville, IL. We ask for God's wisdom and guidance as the Granleys seek to follow God's will for their lives. We are confident that God has a plan and we trust that He will make His plan clear to Mrs. Granley and her family.
"For I know the plans I have for you" says the Lord.
"They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11

It's hardly believable, but another school year is coming to an end. Your children have grown immensely and in so many ways, they are not the same people they were when the year began. Sure, the end of school can be a whirlwind time with things to plan, line up and anticipate for summer, but it can also be emotional to say goodbye to one season of life as you enter a new one. Parents, this year was not only an accomplishment for your children, but for you as well. Together, you've come so far and, praise God, you made it. And, as much as there are many things to look forward to, there is so much to reflect on and give thanks for.

Please take a moment to read, process and apply  this message  to your relationship with your child(ren).
Lunch Account Balance and End of School Year
Thank you for your continued support of our lunch program. As we near the end of the school year, it is important that we balance out the accounts for eighth graders and students with negative balances.
Eighth graders without younger siblings at HCLS or students not returning to HCLS for the 2017-18 school year will be issued a refund on accounts of $5.00 or more.
If an eighth grader has a younger sibling returning next year, we will transfer the remaining balance to that account.  This will automatically be done for the 2017-18 school year.
Please take a moment to view your student's account at myschoolbucks.com and pay any negative balance by Wednesday, June 7. Lunch fees must be paid before report cards will be issued.
If you have any questions, please contact Denise Toy or the school office at
414-529-6702.

Do you have a budding young pianist at your house, interested in starting lessons now or in the fall? Mrs. Propp and Mrs. Gallo both offer a flexible seven-week summer session, which will begin the week of June 12, at the Grange Campus. This is a perfect way to get a jump start for next school year! Summer lessons are open to students entering grades 2-8. (Children entering grade 1 may also be accepted upon Kindergarten teacher recommendation). All new students must have a piano or minimum 61-key keyboard on which to practice. If interested in signing up, information and registration forms (due May 31) are available in the school office.

Baptismal Remembrance
Once a month during our morning chapel service, we remember the baptismal birthdays of students baptized during that month. Our baptism is like another birthday when our sins are forgiven and we are granted a new life in Christ Jesus. This past Wednesday we remembered the following students who were baptized during the month of July.

JULY:  Wyatt H., Levi P., Annabell G., Gianna S., Alex S., Rebecca L., Abigail N., Jack P., Kayla G., Landon P., Lydia C., Lucy W., Molly G., and Theodore K.

We were also blessed this past Saturday to witness the baptism of Kiarra C., one of our 3rd grade students. We welcome Kiarra as a child of the King and pray God continues to grow her faith. Blessings Kiarra!

6th - 8th Grade Math Placement
We are blessed with the opportunity to provide three math classes at each grade level in the middle school. The 6-8th grade math teachers will begin the process of assessing student proficiency in mathematics for class placement in the next school year.  Our goal is to recognize the skills that each student has already developed in order to best fit him/her with the objectives and pacing of the various math classes. After much prayer and consideration, math placement is based on the following:
  • Standardized (MAP) test scores
  • Class grades
  • Teacher, student, and parent input
  • Study habits and effort
  • Results of diagnostic tests
We value your partnership in helping your son or daughter grow to their fullest potential as God has designed.  Please use the following link  before June 12 if you would like to provide additional input. Thank you!
