September 22, 2017
Dear Parents,

This past week I had the opportunity to travel with our 8th graders and chaperones in South Dakota.   One of the joys of traveling with our 8th graders each year is hearing the response from others while we are out in public.  While we were at Wind Cave this year a couple pulled me aside and said, "I have to ask, are you from a special school?"  They could tell our students weren't like other groups they had observed and wanted me to know how positive and well-behaved our group was on the tour.  Our students were showing God's love by caring for others with their polite manners and respect.  How awesome when others notice God's light shining through us!

Pastor K led us in Bible study one day focusing on God's love for us and how that changes us.  We experienced a refreshing breeze and looked at John 3:8 as we talked about how the Holy Spirit is like the wind, we don't know where it began or where it is headed but we can see the effects.  How is the Holy Spirit at work in your life?  What do others see in your relationships and interactions?  Galatians 5:22-23 says, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control."   I know I fail to live this way each day and take great comfort in the forgiveness offered through Jesus' death and resurrection.  Each day is a new opportunity to share God's love with the people around us .... .may you be filled with the Holy Spirit so that others may see the effect!

Crissy Peterson
Assistant Principal

Dear God,

Thank you for blessing us in amazing ways!  Thank you for the forgiveness we have in Jesus.  Please fill us with your Holy Spirit so that others would see love, joy, and peace in our lives and want to know you more.

In Your Holy Name we pray, Amen

In the past, the question has been raised if HCLS would consider having uniforms as their dress code.
There is considerable amount of research that would need to be done to proceed in this direction, such as what is the added cost to the parent, type of uniform, etc.
We ask you to please answer this very short survey regarding if we should proceed researching this topic.

1st Quarter Chapel Offering Mission - Haiti
Our HCLS chapel offerings for the first quarter will be dedicated for the people of Haiti.  As a congregation,  we work with Pastor Mike at Mission Experience in the city of Port au Prince, Haiti. Our mission trips include a work project or several work projects, leading a VBS for the kids at the orphanage, and continuing to build relationships with the children and employees at the orphanage. Our missionaries may also have the opportunity to visit a local school to share a devotion, do a craft together, and play with the children.  Mr. Amling, Mrs. Horn, Mrs. Campbell and the team this past summer led a conference for the teachers of Haiti to help them with their professional development - something that they don't often have the opportunity to receive.

Here is an update from Pastor Wood:
Our chapel offerings will go directly to help the kids we serve in Haiti. This fall our kids will be moving into their new home!  This has been a long journey and we are excited for what God will still do in their lives.  There are always projects to do - building to finish the new site, helping the kids with school supplies and other things they need, and much more.

We also had the wonderful opportunity to this summer we lead a conference for the teachers of Haiti to help them with their professional development - something that they don't have the opportunity to receive.

Thank you for giving generously to your brothers and sisters in Haiti!

Thank You - 8 th Grade Families
Thank you, parents of eighth graders, who generously donated items and shared your most precious treasure - your son or daughter - with us while we were in South Dakota.  You can be proud of how positive the eighth graders were on this trip!  We received many compliments throughout the week recognizing the respect and great manners that were visible to the public.  The opportunity to share God's Word and experiences together positively impacts this year and beyond.
