September 29, 2017
Dear parents:
I must confess, I gave up on the Packers at half time...this most likely says something about me.
There are numerous cliches that I could write...the truth is that I got home from the Brewer game and I did not have the energy to "invest" into another game.
As I was pondering why it was difficult to invest,
I came to the realization that our Father in heaven never gives up on us.  Even when we fully deserve it!  He has given us the ultimate gift of GRACE.  The grace He gives us lasts for eternity.  I pray that you "invest" your time in becoming a fully devoted follower of Christ.  This investment will have an impact on the world, for Christ.

Uniform Survey
Thank you for your input regarding HCL and uniforms. We will keep the survey open for another week.  If you have not yet filled out the short survey, please follow this link, or  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DKS7778 into your browser.

Mid Quarter Assessments
It is hard to believe that it is time for a mid quarter report.  Should you have questions, please do not hesitate to communicate with us.  Our grades K-5 are on a quarter basis.  Each quarter starts fresh.  Grades in 6th - 8th grade are by the semester, so grades are cumulative for the full semester.  That is a change starting in 6th grade.

JOY!

HCLS 8 th Grade South Dakota Trip
Each September our eighth graders and chaperones travel to South Dakota for a week exploring God's creation and His love for us.  The purpose of this trip is quite different from many class trips as we invest the time at the beginning of the year to grow in faith and as a group.  The opportunity to share God's Word and experiences together positively impacts this year and beyond.  Here are some reflections from the students after the trip:

  • My relationships with classmates grew because after being in a tent together for a week or being on the bus with them you learn a lot.  Also, with my teachers I really saw how fun they could be.  ~Owen P.

  • I learned that it doesn't matter what others think about me. I should be myself and use the gifts God has blessed me with. I learned to do everything for God and to glorify Him. Be a kind person. Put others before you. Be a good leader and servant.  Trust in God because He is always with me.  ~Sam H.

  • I really got closer to God through all of the songs and devotions we saw and heard.  Also, just being kind of detached from the world and experiencing nature for a week made me humbled.  ~Amy W.

  • My relationships with some of my classmates were very strengthened.I became better friends with some and found out that we have a lot in common.  I got to know my teachers a lot better and saw a funny, exciting, and playful side to all of them. ~Carly F.

  • On this trip, we stayed on the topic of it's not all about us. I learned that we shouldn't boast, but we also have to have a happy medium and still have respect for ourselves. I think my faith in God strengthened and I will try to trust Him more often.  ~Erin K.
