April 27, 2018
Hello Parents:
What a difference a week makes.  Last week I wrote to you about my struggles with snow.  As I write this, the snow is gone, the sky is clear and bright blue and I can go outside without a jacket!  Our God knows what we need each and every day.  He does not stray from us!  I pray that you lean in to Him with whatever struggles you might be facing.  A blue sky sure seems to make things better!  May His peace be yours!

A staffing update...
When I last wrote to you, we were looking for two teachers.  Through our call committee, the Board of Directors of our church has extended a call to Mr. Andrew Hulke of Hudson, WI to teach social studies to our students in 6th through 8th grade.  He and his family will be visiting our church and school this weekend.  Please pray for him as he considers what God's will is.  We have also extended an offer to Mrs. Jane Picciolo to teach first grade.  Jane is a HCL member and her children attend our school.  Please pray for her as she considers what God's will is for her in her life.  Please keep Mrs. Brenda Granley, our 5th grade teacher, who has been extended a call to teach 5th grade at Faith Lutheran in Las Vegas, also in your prayers.  She will be traveling to Las Vegas this weekend to visit to help her determine where God would like her to teach!  Please stay tuned as I will provide updates when I know them.

JOY!

GRANGE CAMPUS
4th Quarter Offering Mission

The JK3 and JK4 classes are proud to sponsor Lutheran Special Schools and Education Services (LSSES) for the fourth quarter chapel offering mission. Founded in 1958 LSSES is a mission that is centered in Christ that provides quality education to children with learning difficulties. LSSES prepares students with unique learning challenges to maximize their God-given spiritual, academic, emotional and social potential. Lutheran Special Schools' mission is to further minister to all of God's children in a Lutheran school environment.  Please keep LSSES in your prayers as they explore and trust God in their journey.

Want to Get Involved at HCLS?

CPAL, our Christian Parents Advisory League, is seeking new members to join our board. If you are interested in planning events, providing input, and supporting our students and staff through CPAL  please contact Cindy Lemerande ( [email protected] ) or Emily Lenz ( [email protected] ).   We are looking for parents interested in the following positions:

Fundraising :  Our apple pie fundraiser has become an amazing fundraiser to benefit our students each year!  The day of pie-making is a great way to meet other parents and enjoy fellowship while helping.  We are looking for someone to pair up with our current apple pie coordinator next year - learn about the event before organizing it the following year!

Secretary :  We are looking for someone to help us record and distribute minutes, update and maintain CPAL records.

Parent Education :  We would like to provide additional educational opportunities for parents and families.  Let us know if this is an area you are interested in!

Student Activities
:  CPAL is teaming up with HCL Children's Ministry for a Christmas event next year.  We are looking for someone to coordinate a Secret Gift Shop for that event and other potential student activities.

Teacher Recognition and Support :  We are so thankful for the support of our HCL parents and families!  We are looking for parents interested in coordinating the Room Parents program, organizing a few meals for teachers throughout the year, and plan Teacher Appreciation Week.

Family Mentor Program

Our CPAL board is very excited to begin a new Mentor Program which will help connect existing families with new families at HCLS. We are seeking names of existing families that would be interested to serve as mentors for new families.

Would you be willing to...
  • Connect kids over summer (something as simple as a playdate in the park)
  • Share contact information so new families can ask questions as they come up
  • Answer questions and offer guidance throughout the school year
If you would like to have your name added as a mentor family, please contact Angela Ferrell at [email protected] . We are working on creating a list of interested families before the school year ends so we can begin connecting with our new families this summer. Thank you for reaching out and welcoming others into our school family!
Thank you for you Kindness!

Thank you Hales Corners Lutheran School families, faculty, and alumni for supporting the production The Music Man Jr. We could never have done it without your help. Also, thank you musical theater families for the lovely flowers and gift cards. How thoughtful!

Thank you, 8th grade class, for your leadership and for being such positive role models. We love you and will miss you. Come to our shows in the future; this is the greatest gift you could give us! You will always be welcome here.

Gods' blessings and until next year,
Mrs. Horn

JANESVILLE CAMPUS
7th Grade Families Needed for Dance and Graduation Night

May 11 Dance:
All seventh graders are asked to bring in a donation for the graduation dance on Friday, May 11  Students in 7R are asked to bring either small bottles of gatorade, fruit juice pouches or juice boxes.  Students in 7D are asked to bring a snack like chips or pretzels or a dessert like cookies or brownies (ready to serve).   Questions?  Please don ' t hesitate to contact Jana Horn - [email protected]
Thank you for your help!  Your donations allow all students to enjoy this special dance without the need to pay for refreshments.

June 1 Graduation:
In preparation for 8th grade graduation, we are looking for volunteers.  On graduation night, it is tradition to have a reception in the fellowship hall following the graduation service. After graduation, families come downstairs for a little reception and for photo opportunities. We ask 7th grade parents to help set up a few tables with the cake and beverages for graduates and their families. (Decorations are setup by 8th grade parents, so no need to worry about that.)

It would be great if you could arrive on graduation night (June 1) at about 6:15pm. Your main roles are to setup, serve, refill, and to help clean up afterward.

We are looking for about 6 volunteers.  Feel free to bring your 7th grade student along to help as well!

If you are interested in helping, please contact Mrs. Doherty at [email protected].

Have You Recorded Your Service Hours?

The Parent Service Program encourages each family to  share 20 hours (K-8) or 12 hours (JK3 & JK4) of service per year.
Many parents already provide more hours of service than is encouraged.
The parent service program is intended to promote family participation in your child's Christian education.  This enhances the quality of your child's education.  Service to the church is also encouraged.  Service hours are recorded in a binder kept in the school office. Parents may record their hours themselves or call Terri Ward at the school office (414-529-6702) to record them.
