March 11, 2018
It's been a long, cold winter, and I am eager for warm weather. I'm tired of seeing bare trees and lifeless brown leaves covering the ground or more snow.
Yet even as I anticipate my favorite season, I hear my mother's voice saying, "Don't wish your life away."
If you're like me, you sometimes hear yourself saying, "When such and such happens, then I will . . . or, If only so and so would do this, then I would do that . . . or, I would be happy if . . . or I will be satisfied when . ."
In longing for some future good, we forget that every day-regardless of the weather or our circumstances-is a gift from God to be used for His glory.
In every season, there is a reason to rejoice and an opportunity to do good (Eccl. 3:12). The challenge for each of us every day is to find something to rejoice about and some good to do-and then to do both.

Just as the winter turns to spring,
Our lives have changing seasons too;
So when a gloomy forecast comes,
Remember-God has plans for you.
- Sper

Every season brings a reason to rejoice.

Message from Mrs. Kelling
After a lot of prayerful consideration, I wanted to let you know that I will not be returning to HCLS next year as my husband is pursuing a commission as a Naval Officer as a part of the Navy Nurse Corps. My husband served in the Army for eight years prior to receiving his Bachelor's degree. Now that he has his Nursing degree, he is feeling called to pursue a career in the military once more. Even though we are unsure of our destination at this time, my husband will be stationed at a base somewhere on a coast. While I am excited for our next adventure, it doesn't come without anxiety of the unknown -- where will he be stationed? Will it be stateside? Will I still be teaching next year? Amongst all the questions, we are confident that this is God's will for us. We kindly ask for prayers as God's plan continues to be revealed to us as we embark on this military journey. We know God goes before us, and we are trusting in His unfailing guidance and love. We are so thankful for all the blessings that HCL has provided! God is so good!

Staffing Update
As you read in the article from Mrs. Kelling, we will be looking for a 3rd grade teacher for next year.  We know that God has great plans for the Kellings and will bless them wherever He leads. We will miss Mrs. Kelling!  We also know that God has great plans for HCLS and will continue to bless us as well. Please share any recommendations for teacher candidates with Albert Amling, [email protected] as we will be quickly forming a call committee to seek who God has planned for us.

8th Grade Acolytes Needed
On Good Friday, March 30, we will be having Tenebrae services at 12:30, 6:30 and 8 pm. This involves the acolytes extinguishing six candles on either side of the Altar during the service. The pastors invite 8th graders to help with this part of the service, serving as acolytes. This would also count toward the serving requirement for Confirmation.
There will be one training class with Pastor Keith held during the school day prior to Good Friday.  We would like to have spots filled BEFORE spring break.  Please sign-up with this link if your student can help out.
Mrs. Horn and Mrs. Kemper will work with Rebecca Kurkowski, worship coordinator on a training date.

PB&J Challenge and Feeding America
Last Thursday, 7th grade SALT students were able to help at Feeding America to drop off of our school's awesome donation as well as sorting it to get the food to individual food pantries.  The students were fantastic representatives of what makes our school so great - wonderful kids sharing God's word through their words and actions.   We are thankful to count our blessings and be able to help others. Special thanks to the Kirner, Golembiewski, and West families for helping to transport over 1700 pounds of PB&J!
