Will They Get It Right This Time?

There is a dichotomy here. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has proposed rules that are already inhibiting mortgage lending by community banks and threaten to force them out of the business. And the fate of the primary secondary market in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is uncertain following their government bailout.

Hoenig: I Cannot Support the Basel III Interim Final Rule
"I support the FDIC's leadership in proposing to raise the supplemental leverage ratio for the eight largest financial holding companies in the U.S. to 6 percent for the banks and 5 percent for the holding company," FDIC Vice Chairman Tom Hoenig said in a statement. Agencies Issue Proposed Rule to Exempt Subset of Higher-Priced Mortgage Loans from Appraisal Requirements      

The proposed rule would provide that the following three types of higher-priced mortgage loans would be exempt from the Dodd-Frank Act appraisal requirements: loans of $25,000 or less; certain "streamlined" refinancings; and certain loans secured by manufactured housing. Read more>>

ABA: Consumer Delinquencies Decline Significantly in First Quarter
The American Bankers Association survey found that bank card delinquencies fell 6 basis points to 2.41 percent of all accounts in the first quarter - the lowest level since June 1990 and well below the 15-year average of 3.87 percent. Read more>>

Majority of Business Owners Unaware of Their Website's Security    

Based on a poll of over 2,100 respondents, one of the key findings from the survey is 56 percent of business owners do not have a fear of cyber-attacks and 40 percent of respondents have scanned their website for security vulnerabilities in the last 12 months. Of the remaining, 35 percent have not and 25 percent were not sure if they scanned for vulnerabilities in the last 12 months. Read more>>
