SNOW MAKE-UP DAYS: Snow make-up days for the Jan. 11 and Feb. 9 school closures will be Monday, May 8, and Tuesday, May 30.

"HAIRSPRAY" The WAHS musical is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday, March 17, with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18.
Tickets are available for purchase in the main office at WAHS.

Teacher Mini-Grant Program. Since 2013, the education foundation has collected more than $41,000 as a result of this event to support district projects and programs.

Congratulations to our friends at
Alabaster Coffee Roaster & Tea Co. for receiving the 2017 Business Partner in Education Award during the Chamber of Commerce's Education Celebration on March 2. The downtown business was recognized for its partnership in the franchise development program at WAHS. The partnership was
recently featured on WBRE.
Also, congratulations to WAHS teacher Mrs. Kristin Takach and senior
Ryan Niklaus for being named as one of the outstanding educators and outstanding students, respectively, at the Education Celebration!

7 of 9 WASD Odyssey of the Mind Teams Score Big at Regionals; Move on to States
|
Congratulations to the seven of nine Williamsport Area School District Odyssey of the Mind teams that are moving on to the state round after competing at the Regional Tournament in Berwick on on March 4.
Those teams moving on to the state tournament are:
Cochran Primary School
- Second Place: Division I, Classics, coached by Chelsea Cramer and Rachel Kirk: Cooper Gutberlet, Lily Hamilton, Corbin Kirk, Morgan Morse, Noah Scholnick, Daniel Turner and Ruby Watts.
- Second Place: Division I, Technical, coached by Becky Ciabattari and Dave Richards: Olivia Ciabattari, William Ciabattari, Parker Fox, Daequan Houston, Dylana Richards, Izzy Sanders and Maddie Sanders.

Daughters of the American Revolution Honor Senior with 2017 Good Citizen Award

Williamsport Area High School senior
Abigail Brooke Laver has earned the 2017 Good Citizen Award from the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Laver recently won the award from the organization's local chapter based on an essay submission that centered on voting and the Civil Rights Movement. Her entry also earned her an honorable mention at the state level.
At WAHS, Laver is a member of the Class of 2017 executive board, participates in concert band, and is involved with the school's arts magazine, "The Cherry & White." Outside of school she does ballet, tap and enjoys reading. She also volunteers as a tutor for any student in need at her school.

WAHS Senior's Volunteerism Recognized with President's Volunteer Service Award

Williamsport Area High School senior
Danielle Wesneski has been honored for her exemplary volunteer service with a President's Volunteer Service Award.
The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country, was granted by the
Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program on behalf of the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation.
Wesneski was nominated last fall in recognition of her volunteer service in the kitchen at First United Methodist Church.
"I am really excited to be chosen and very grateful for it," she said.

WAHS Common Scholarship Application Now Available; Applications Due March 17
|
The WAHS Common Scholarship Application includes a list of local scholarships administered by the WAHS counseling office. Please read each scholarship and check the ones that you wish to be considered for (and that you meet the specific qualifications).
1. First, please be sure that the application is printed neatly and that it is complete.
2. Please be sure that you meet the qualifications of the scholarships that you check off.
3. Please be sure that all supporting forms are included with each application.
4. Applications are due in the counseling office by March 17
.
This deadline will be adhered to strictly! All supporting documents must be included.

Read Across America Week was recently celebrated in our schools and across the nation in honor of the late Dr. Seuss' birthday. From city officials, collegiate athletes to school board members - even Good Morning America's Robin Roberts - served as guest readers in our buildings, among a slate of Seuss-themed activities.

Reunion News
- The Class of 1977 will celebrate its 40th class reunion on July 15, 2017. The reunion will take place from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Zafar Grotto Rafaz Club, 381 E. Second St., South Williamsport.
