Harlem Wizards to Return to Magic Dome on Feb. 6 |
Twelve new players have joined the 20-member team of teachers, principals and high school students who will take on the
Harlem Wizards in a charity basketball event scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 6 in the Magic Dome at WAHS.
Led by Head Basketball Coach Allen Taylor and his assistant Sheila Shull, the assistant principal at Jackson Primary School, the "Millionaire Magicians" are set to challenge the entertainment basketball squad known for its fancy teamwork and ball handling.
From crazy slam-dunks to three-man alley-oops, the New Jersey-based organization promises a night of spontaneous humor and excitement in "basketball wizardry on the hardwood."
A new Harlem Wizards team promises a night of a new show and new comedy, keeping the event fresh for the audience. A halftime show will include audience participation, and players will be made available for autographs at the end of the game.
The Wizards
made their Magic Dome debut in 2014 and have since helped generate more than $32,000 for the education foundation in support of its mission to enhance and fund district programming. The event has attracted a sustained crowd of nearly 2,100 people over the last two years.
Last year's near sell-out event generated a net profit of $13,200.

2nd-Grade Students at Stevens Receive Lesson in Giving; Donate Items to the YWCA
|
Second-grade students from Stevens Primary School received a lesson in giving in December when they hand-delivered care packages to the YWCA to benefit the nonprofit's homeless women and children.
The students from Morgan Williams' classroom brought in donated items, such as hygiene products and non-perishables, to package in drawstring bags. On Dec. 20, the students walked to and delivered the bags to the organization, where they also learned about the YWCA's programs and those whom will benefit from their gifts.
