The public is invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Williston Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 8:30 a.m. The ceremony will mark the official grand opening of the $105 million facility.The expansive plant was built to replace the former lagoon system that struggled to keep up with newer demands. Since 2009, the city has experienced unprecedented population growth due to the ongoing development of the Bakken Shale Oil and Gas Play. Williston's population increased dramatically from 2010-2015, rising from14,716 in 2010 to 27,763 in 2015. The 2017 population is estimated at 30,000 people. Read More

Construction at the Williston Basin International Airport continues to stay on track.
The Federal Aviation Administration announced this week that it plans to award $282.6 million in Airport Improvement Grants (AIGs) to 67 airports in 29 states. Connecticut's Waterbury-Oxford Airport ($28.9 million), Louisiana's Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport ($26.1 million) and North Dakota's Williston Airport ($21.3 million) received the largest individual discretionary grants. City of Williston All Stars, Police Department to compete in Bakken X Trek

Members of the City of Williston All Stars challenge the Williston Police Department at the Bakken X Trek Sept. 9!
The Williston All Stars have issued a challenge to the Williston Police Department to compete in the third annual Bakken X Trek. The All Stars are lead by city administrator David Tuan. The police department accepted the challenge and agreed to pass the challenge along to another city department. The Bakken X Trek will be held Sept. 9 at Spring Lake Park. The race will include some standard obstacles and some unique to the venue. The event is open to all levels and ages. Cardon Global donates $25,000 to Opportunity Foundation

Cardon Development Group presented a check to the Opportunity Foundation during Summer Nights on Main Aug. 17 in Downtown Williston.
Cardon Development Group (CDG) has donated $25,000 to the Opportunity Foundation in Williston. The funds will be utilized to start a new commercial kitchen project in Williston. The donation was presented during the Summer Nights on Main concert on  Aug. 17 in Downtown Williston. CDG sponsored the evening's live entertainment, the Dueling Pianos.

Williston Public School District sets New

Enrollment Record at 4,201

The Williston Public School District #1 has released the final first day of school enrollment. A total of 4,201 students started the 2017-18 school year on Tuesday, Aug. 22. The Williston Herald hosted its first-ever Best of the Bakken event Thursday night. The event celebrated the winners from the Best of the Bakken competition. This was the first year the competition was entirely online, and there were 1,100 nominations and more than 16,000 votes. Shawn Wenko, executive director of Williston Economic Development, was the keynote speaker at the event. Wenko talked about the state of Williston's economy. Read More

The Williston Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting to help Western Cooperative Credit Union celebrate the Grand Re-Opening of their newly expanded Downtown Branch at 215 Washington Ave. Pictured is President and CEO Melanie Stillwell and Branch Manager Pam Ferrell along with WCCU board members, staff and Chamber ambassadors.

Watford City seeks Retail Recruitment support from Buxton Analytics

If you ask most people living in Watford City what they would most like to see, the answer is most likely more retail shopping and dining opportunities. The Watford City City Council has agreed to spend $165,000 over the next three years from the city's Roughrider Fund to conduct a retail study. The retail assessment will conducted by Buxton, a Ft. The WEST event will be held at the Grand Williston Hotel and Conference Center. The show will feature the WED/SBDC awards and appreciation dinner Aug. 31.

08/31                   Ribbon Cutting for Water Resource Recovery Facility
The public is invited to the celebration at 8:30 a.m. at 7 12th Ave. E. in Williston. There will be a short program, refreshments, virtual tours and condensed site tours.

09/5-7                  CHI St. Alexius Health Williston Discount Bedding Fair
The annual event will be held in the Liston Room from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday. There will be s uper soft sheets, baby blankets, mink blankets, Sherpa throws and much more .

09/06                   1 Million Cups
The monthly event will be held from 8:30-9:30 a.m. at Williston State College. The public is welcome to attend. There will be two presentations and free java from the Smiling Moose Deli.
