Needed: Cat Litter for Nibbles 'n' Kibbles Food Bank
CCS could really use cat litter in small bags for our Nibbles 'n' Kibbles food bank. Twice a month we offer free food and cat litter to people who have vouchers from The Action Center (formerly JeffCo Action Center). This provides assistance for people who are temporarily unable to care for their cats, so they don't abuse, neglect, or abandon their cats during the financial struggles. Thank you for your support!

Does Your Cat Need a Summer 'Do?
If your cat could use a new summer hairdo to help stay cool in the heat or perhaps help reduce shedding a little bit, call the Clinic at Cat Care Society! Dr. Lynne, Peggy, and Kimberly would be happy to groom your cat with the popular "lion cut," giving Kitty a new look to beat the summer heat. Call with questions or to make an appointment!

The 4th of July is probably a cat's least favorite holiday (perhaps tied with Halloween and the dreaded doorbell).

The noise usually begins a few days before the holiday and may last throughout the weekend, since July 4 is on a Friday. A cat's sense of hearing is much more acute than ours, and all the noises associated with the holiday are much more intense for them. Add to that the lack of understanding of what is going on, and you can have a very scared cat on your hands.
Here are some tips for helping your cat cope with fireworks:
- Create a safe room or safe hiding places - put beds, food, water, toys, and cat trees and scratchers in the room. Leave a radio or tv on in the room, as this may act as white noise and block out some of noise. "Igloo style" cat beds can also be a good option.
- Close all the windows, lower shades, and draw blinds to at least lower noise levels somewhat.
- Play some calming music (classical is good), but don't try to drown out the sound of fireworks by blasting the music.
- Natural calming remedies, such as Stress Stopper or Storm Soother can help keep kitties calm. Pheromone plug-ins such as Comfort Zone with Feliway can also help - use in the area where your cat tends to hide during storms.
- Remain calm - our cats pick up on our emotions, and if we're anxious, they'll be anxious as well. Reassure your cat, but don't overdo it. While it's tempting to cuddle and comfort your cat during fireworks, in your cat's mind, this rewards the fearful behavior. Speak in a calm, but cheerful voice.
- Medication - if your cat has reacted very badly to fireworks in the past, you may want to talk to you veterinarian about prescribing anti-anxiety medication.
We hope these strategies are helpful if your cat is upset by Independence Day festivities.

Hello, I'm Stella. I'm a sweet kitty. I'm very affectionate and I love to be cuddled and brushed. I lived with a wonderful person for most of my life but she went to the Rainbow Bridge without me. I really miss her b ut then the person who took care of my mom took me in. That was great too as we were good friends but now she can't take care of me anymore, so I've come to stay at the Cat Care Society. I'm what they call a senior kitty. Because of my age, I am on the Perpet-U-Care program, which will pay for a portion of my health care for the rest of my life. That's a pretty good deal, don't you think? I'm definitely worth it. I still have plenty of love to give a gentle and quiet person who understands what it's like to be shy. If you are patient with me, I'll let you scratch my ears and even rub my tummy. I love to talk and purr and I give little kitty kisses too. And every once in awhile I still like a good session of playtime. Those little glitter balls are my favorite toys. Will you come visit me? I'll tell you how I can brighten up your life!More About Stella:
- Breed: Domestic Shorthair
- Color: Brown Tabby
- Age: Senior
- Sex: Female
- Hair: Short
Please come by the shelter and visit me and all of my friends here at CCS! We can't wait to see you!
