Wings is a monthly newsletter about Hospice of Southern Illinois' news, hospice updates,  and information on events, volunteers, and veterans. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for individuals and their loved ones touched by a terminal illness.
June is PTSD Awareness Month
In this issue learn about Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), meet our newest Care Ambassador, be able to sign up for our golf tournaments, and find out what the volunteers have been up to! Thank you for your continued support of our mission. If you wish to make a donation to Hospice of Southern Illinois, please continue to our website.

Congratulating Two Very Special Employees

Retirement is bittersweet for both Hospice of Southern Illinois and these two employees: Nancy Reed, 20 years of service, and Susan Relfe, 17 years of service. The reason we can easily help these two celebrate is not only because they deserve this next chapter, but they have both agreed to continue their dedication through volunteering. Help us congratulate and welcome our "newest" volunteers, Susan and Nancy (although they both have volunteered for years during their employment).
Workplace Wellness

Hospice of Southern Illinois makes Workplace Wellness a priority, so we want to share some tips with you! 2016 Thrive, Reach Your Best calendar notes, "Preventative tests and exams check for the most common conditions - including heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and cancer. The earlier a disease is caught, the easier it is to treat. And learning you aren't at risk is important too."

Which tests should be a consideration or first step?
For Women: Breast Cancer and Cervical Cancer
Men: Prostate Cancer and Testicular Cancer

    June is PTSD Awareness Month
"The National Center for PTSD promotes awareness of PTSD and effective treatments throughout the year. Starting in 2010, Congress named June 27th PTSD Awareness Day (S. Res. 455). In 2014, the Senate designated the full month of June for National PTSD Awareness (S. Res. 481). Efforts are underway to continue this designation for the third consecutive year in 2016."
