"We were very fortunate to have such prominent speakers at this event.  This is another example of regional partners working together on a common goal to help local businesses grow and be recognized for the value they bring to the community," Corbit said. Award Winner: Martin County - This award is based on Kevin Kryzda, Martin County CIO and his leadership to build stakeholder awareness and support, develop a strategic plan, engineering design, and construction of the Martin County Community Broadband Network ("CBN"). The 150 mile CBN buried fiber optic cable network was put into service in June 2011 at roughly half the cost of pre-project estimates. It currently connects more than 100 government, public safety, education, and civic buildings located throughout the County. The cost to construct the CBN and timeframe to complete the project is attributed to innovative approaches such as sharing fiber optic infrastructure with ITS Telecom and Verizon (public-private collaboration) and collaborating with other departments within the County, Martin County School District, and municipalities.

Special Recognition: Okeechobee County - In 2011, the Okeechobee County Board of County Commissioners began utilizing a new software program, IQM2 Intelligent Meeting Management Solutions, that streams County meetings live on the Internet, allows for "paperless" agendas (which is good for the environment), elevates the standards for professionalism in Okeechobee County, and without a doubt establishes the County in the "Information Age". IQM2 provides the potential for collaboration with other local/partner agencies such as the Okeechobee Utility Authority and Okeechobee Tourism Development Council. Through their utilization of IQM2, the County has also realized internal efficiencies by involving more Staff members in the preparation of meeting agendas and supporting materials as they relate to each County Department.
