Winter Market Update

Love is in the Air  
Valentine's Day is right around the corner and our farmers are waiting to show you some fresh 'n' local love this Saturday. The Winter Market may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of shopping for your sweetheart, but we can promise the ingredients for a very special dinner. Think filet mignon or a succulent steak from Breakaway Farms, topped with buttery sauteed mushrooms from Primordia and some creamy Yukon Gold mashed potatoes on the side. Show your honey you really love them with a homemade pie made with apples from Scholl Orchards or Comeback Farms. And finish off the meal with a rich blend of coffee from Fieldstone. And stop in the Public Market for a bottle of wine from Tolino Vineyards and some decadent truffles from Chocodiem!

Primordia Mushroom Farm 

Mushrooms are such a great addition to winter soups, stews and pot roasts. And if you're looking for a mushroom that stays firm after extended cooking time, try the Pioppino. This little beauty is your market manager's favorite. And Pioppinos give you a real bang for your buck since you can utilize the entire stem. They're also great in a potato hash because they get super crispy when fried. Try this recipe for Pioppino Mushroom Ragu.

Primordia will have Perigord truffles as well as Black Trumpets and Yellowfoot chantarelles available for special order this week.

Get back to your roots this week with Chiogga and Red beets, super sweet carrots, creamy potatoes (Red, Gold, Fingerlings) and Daikon Radish. Daikons are great for pickling - try this easy recipe for Vietnamese Pickled Daikon & Carrots.

Also on the menu are cabbage (Napa and Red), Sunchokes, and garlic. Winter squash varieties include  Acorn, Buttercup, Delicata and hard to find Kabocha. This recipe for Sweet & Spicy Roasted Kombucha looks pretty darn delicious (pictured above).
