Outdoor Fun!

Even though the weather has changed it is still important for to get outside! Here are two fun outdoor ideas:

  1. Turn a simple walk into a creative exploration; go on an outdoor scavenger hunt. Make a list of things that can be found while out on a walk or hike. Instead of collecting items and disturbing nature, take a picture with your phone or camera. Create a collage. Hang it on your wall or fridge to remember the fun you had.
  2. Design a backyard obstacle course. Find stationary items to climb over, around through or jump over. Zig zag between trees and crawl over a pile of snow. Once you create the course, time yourself to see how fast you can complete it. Take pictures, share them online and encourage others to stay active.

Holiday Shopping Experience

For over ten years, the annual WAWM School District Children's Holiday Shopping Experience has taken place at the Target in West Allis. This event is organized by the Recreation Department and funded by the generosity of an anonymous donor who happens to be a WAWM School District Alumnus. It's also funded in part by contributions from Target. Approximately 450 volunteers help with this event and each year gifts are provided to roughly 700 elementary students and their families. Students in need at the Intermediate and High Schools receive a winter jacket.
