Luscious Leeks

Leeks, like their relatives onions and garlic, are a member of the Allium family. Unlike their onion relatives, however, leeks have a more delicate and sweet flavor, which allows them to add subtle flavor to dishes that onions would otherwise overpower. Though native to Central Asia, the leek has a strong history in Europe; the country of Wales, in particular, features the Allium on its national emblem because Welsh soldiers stuck the stalks in their hats so they were easily distinguished from their Saxon enemies. It was also a common myth that leeks helped make one's throat or voice stronger. What's not a myth though, is the leek's nutritional profile. It's packed with Vitamins K, B6, and C and also contains significant amounts of manganese, copper, folate, and iron. To store the stalks, keep them unwashed and untrimmed in the fridge, wrapped loosely in a plastic bag. You can also blanch them for 2-3 minutes and freeze them for a few months. Survey Results

A great many thanks to those of you who supplied us with ample feedback about the 2014 CSA season. CSA is a co-creative endeavor. Our job is to grow what you want to eat for the year. Without us knowing what you want, our job is much more difficult to do well. So, thanks for lending a hand. This also gives us a chance to respond to comments, provide context to help members better understand the farm, and talk about future plans that are, in part, inspired by your feedback.

Overall, people were very pleased with the CSA this year, even more so than in years past. Taking everything into account, this was a reasonably better balanced, productive year for us.  Read More...

The Dirt on the Farm:
Thanks!

Thank you for your support this year! We are thrilled to have had such a successful year with you.  As the regular season finishes up this week before Thanksgiving, our minds explore gratitude.  High on our list is always our supportive members and customers.  We received tons of positive feedback throughout the year. That support is what keeps us going; especially on the hot buggy days of summer, or when our boots are sucked in up over our shins in rain soaked fields, or when the freezing temperatures hit early and we are packing boxes in the snow. We couldn't do what we do with out your support. So here is to real food, doing it local, with an active community. Our farm is your farm.  Thank you!

Gratefully,

Farmer Tim and the rest of us.

PS-Enjoy some "selfie" goodbye photos from us and some of our crew.  See you next year!
