Community Service Spotlights
Beck Latham
Mitchell Johnson
Beck Latham
and Mitchell Johnson serve on the Hope Festival leadership team.  Why did they choose to get involved?  In Beck's words, "It
was pretty impactful the first time I attended the Hope Festival, and I knew I had to get more involved. I really liked the mission of Hopefest to provide more than just goods but also hopeful messages and an uplifting spirit. Sometimes I wonder where donations are going in other organizations but here it's nice to meet the individuals we are serving."   Mitchell says, "So many times we talk about helping the homeless, and through this event we actually are able to help and see our efforts appreciated by the many people who are served at Hopefest .  It really makes me feel good to give others at my school an opportunity to serve."  Click here to get involved this year on March 3rd!
Hopefest Volunteer Opportunity
Please volunteer for Hopefest 2018! Together, we will serve 1,000+ individuals experiencing poverty/homelessness across King County. Guests who attend will be served with clothing, groceries, hygiene and school supplies, toys, haircuts, dental care, and much more-all for free. See you on March 3rd!

Are you interested in being "in-the-know" at Eastlake?

The Executive Board consists of Co-Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, VP Volunteers, VP Ways and Means and Membership. We are specifically looking to fill vacancies for Co-President, Ways and Means, Treasurer and Membership. If you are interested in being more involved in your student's high school experience by volunteering for the PTSA, please contact one of the members of the Nominating Committee (Jay Pulacode, Tallee Whitehorn, and Michele Heidorn) at nomcom@ehsptsa.org.  Thank you!

We are so pleased to invite Anne back to present on this topic (twice, one evening and one daytime class)! More information about Common Sense College Counseling. Sponsored by LWSD and the LWPTSA Council. Contact Irene Neumann, Co-VP F.A.C.E., at FACE@lwptsa.net for more information or questions.
Council Scholarships Available
Deadline to apply is April 18 at 1pm
The Lake Washington PTSA Council is pleased to roll out its 2018 Scholarship Program! Each year in the spring Council offers several student scholarships and two staff scholarships. We are especially happy this year to be able to announce a funding increase to the Program. At their January meeting, the LWPTSA Council's membership voted to increase funding so that students will be awarded $1,250. The program has seen some changes in its 35+ years of existence, but this will be the first increase in dollar amount in decades and we couldn't be happier. This year's Student Scholarship Program will include 14 scholarships:
  • 8 Merit scholarships
  • 2 Education scholarships
  • 1 Perseverance
  • 1 Turn around
  • 1 L.E. Scarr 2 year, technical or vocational
  • 1 At-Large
The Scholarship Program is funded by money raised at the Council's annual Scholarship Basket Auction, by annual donations from the 41 PTSAs in the LWSD, and by donations from the greater community. This year the Scholarship Basket Auction raised over $8,000 and we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who donated and participated and especially to our Chairs, Debbie Ohman and Mindy Lincicome.

For more information, contact Irene Neumann, Scholarships Chair, scholarships@lwptsa.net.

Washington State PTA Dad's Essay
And speaking of great dads....
The Washington State PTA holds a yearly statewide essay contest that explores the important and varied contributions that men make in the lives and education of children -- from the child's perspective. All men involved in a child's life -- fathers, uncles, grandfathers, brothers, step-fathers, mentors, neighbors, pastors, coaches and friends -- impact the children they care about. Research clearly shows that male involvement positively influences academic success at all levels of schooling -- preschool through college.

Click here for contest guidelines, divisions, and to read last year's winning entries, (including the winning entry from Alexander Wright of Samantha Smith Elementary!) Deadline is  March 1, 2018.
