Crucial Conversations 3.0: Finding the Balance (7 pm)

Dear Parents,

I hope you had a blessed and joyous Easter with your families!

This is an important week for our 8 th graders.  On Friday, April 13th, Bishop Campbell will be visiting our parish to confirm our 190  parish children. Please pray for our parish confirmandi as they take the next formal step in their faith formation.

On Thursday night this week P.E.R.C. is presenting a morning and an evening session on the topic of "Social Media and Our Children".  Please read below more about this program and about the "Device Free Family Night" being sponsored by the City of Dublin. In addition to these Dublin community events, our parish is sponsoring a Crucial Conversations 3.0 session on April 25th about finding the balance for raising a confident, happy faith-filled child.  I highly encourage you to consider taking the time to attend as many of these events as your schedule allows. Parenting in today's world is challenging and these type of programs offer you support and information.

Easter Blessings,
Kathy O'Reilly

Congrats Mrs. Jen Maschari

Congratulations to middle school teacher Mrs. Jen Maschari! Mrs. Maschari's  book, "Things That Surprise You," has been chosen for the Choose To Read Ohio middle grade list for 2019-2020.

There was a special morning reception on   Monday, April 9th at the State Library to kick-off the upcoming Ohioana Book Festival and to celebrate the 60th anniversary of National Library Week. They also officially announced the new list of titles for CTRO. The state representative was there to give Mrs. Maschari a special commendation.

Congrats Mrs. Maschari!
Congrats Sara Goodlive, First Place State Winner in Letters About Literature

Congratulations to Saint Brigid of Kildare School sixth grade student Sara Goodlive, who was a state level first place winner in the 2018 Letters About Literature writing contest.

Saint Brigid of Kildare School students have participated in this contest for the past 12 years. Though there are usually multiple students who advance through several levels of judging, Sara is the first Saint Brigid of Kildare School student to place first in the state.

1,020 students from Ohio entered the contest for our division, from which 189 were chosen to advance to state level judging. Of the 189 who advanced, 12 were Saint Brigid of Kildare School students: Julia Belli, Brady Bennison, Anthony Campagni, Andrew Freiburger, Pierre-Andre Geoffrion, Sara Goodlive, Sophia Heise, Anthony Leasure, Drew Myers, Miko Phillips, Leo Walling, and Kyle White.

Sara then advanced to further rounds of judging where she was chosen as one of the top 20 in the state; she then went on to win first place in the state. Each state's first place winning letter will be judged at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. and a national winner will be selected.

"The competition was a great learning experience and I still can't believe I won!" says Sara.

The national writing contest is open to students in grades four through twelve in all fifty states. Students from public, private and charter schools enter the contest, with thousands of entries and participation from each state in the U.S. The annual contest integrates the English Language Arts learning standards with an authentic writing opportunity that allows students to express their personal feelings about a book and its effect on them in the form of a letter to the author.

What comes from St. Brigid sixth grade students are interpretive reader responses that delve into their personal experiences, and how reading a book has shaped their larger view of the world, their lives, and their impact on others.

" This contest challenges students to think deeply and take risks which helps them them become stronger and more confident writers overall." says sixth grade literacy teacher Jill Cecutti.

The national winner will be selected in Washington D.C. in the coming weeks.
Upcoming Author Visit

On April 18, we are privileged to have Ohio author, Mary Kay Carson, visit our 5th and 6th grade students to share her experience and knowledge of reading, research, writing, and the world of science.  She has written numerous fascinating informational texts which strongly support our science curriculum and would be great additions to your home library, if you so choose.

Below is the link for book orders. All pre-ordered books will be signed by the author!
