In This Issue

Dear Parents,

I hope you have been enjoying hearing your students talk about our Wellness Week activities and perhaps you were even able to catch some of our surprise breakfast on WBNS 10 TV News! We have a couple more fun surprises this week to help raise awareness of the importance of sleep and drinking enough water.  As a part of this week's activities we are asking parents to plan for  Thursday a family night to perhaps take a walk, have a healthy meal together, play basketball in the driveway, etc. In order to allow extra time for this the students will have a "Homework Free" evening  on Thursday. Please participate as your schedule will allow.

Parents are also invited to attend a special guest speaker event that is scheduled for 5-8th grade students  Friday at  1:45 PM in the gym. Our guest will be  Andy Wilmore,  a 23 year college student who happens to be autistic.  He is dedicating his life to speaking with groups about what it was like growing up with autism, how he was treated, how he dealt with things and how he figured out what worked best for him.  Andy will also share the amazing support he received from his parents. When he heard we were reading the book Wonder, he bought the book and read it along with us and will make connections of his experiences with the book.

Be Well,

Kathleen O'Reilly

Principal

Wellness Week Featured on WBNS 10TV
As many of you might have seen this week on 10 TV News, St. Brigid School has kicked off our second annual Wellness Week. Monday's festivities began with teachers welcoming students to school dressed as apples, bananas, grapes and milk! Students then received a surprise healthy breakfast as they entered school (see below for news links).

This year the Wellness Committee's focus is to educate students on how personal health can impact their ability to be "Ready to Learn." Specifically, we are focusing on the importance of breakfast, water and sleep. This week's activities include the opportunity to try fruit infused water along with learning many fun wellness facts every day.

This Thursday night will once again be Family Night! The teachers have agreed to institute a homework free evening with the hope of promoting an electronic free night spent with family. Plan to spend some time playing a game, talking over a meal, or going for a walk with the family.

Thank you for participating and helping to raise awareness of the importance of wellness.

Clips from WBNS 10TV
WBNS 10TV interviewed school nurse Peggy Iannarino live on Monday morning at 6:15 a.m. and aired the coverage for the surprise breakfast that morning. Then at 6:15 p.m. on Monday, they aired a longer segment showing our students entering school being greeted by our teachers dressed in healthy foods costumes. They also played clips Tuesday morning around 6 a.m. again, and posted a video of our teachers on their Facebook page.

Gifts of Gratitude Year-End Gifts

Do you always find yourself looking high and low for the perfect end-of-year gifts for your children's teachers?

Consider participating in the Gifts of Gratitude program, Saint Brigid's gift giving program for ALL teachers and staff.

The Home and School Association established Gifts ofGratitude as a united effort by families to provide generous gifts for all teachers and staff to thank them for sharing their talents with our children on a daily basis.

Each family's $20 contribution per child provides for each teacher and staff member:

  • A special end-of-year gift item and monetary gift card

Your family's participation in this program is optional. The suggested annual gift amount is $20 per child; however, any amount given is graciously accepted. IF YOU ALREADY CONTRIBUTED BEFORE CHRISTMAS, IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO CONTRIBUTE AGAIN!

There are two payment options:

1)      Quick and easy: pay securely through PayPal! Log on to www.paypal.com, choose the "send money to friends and family" option, enter the email address[email protected] and the total amount your family would like to contribute, and complete the transaction.

2)      Send a check to school with your child payable to St. Brigid Home and School. Please mark the outside of the envelope with "Home and School Gifts of Gratitude."

Please send your contribution by Friday, May 15.

Questions regarding the Gifts of Gratitude program may be directed to Home & School Association Vice Co-Chairs: Mary Moore at [email protected] and Theresa Vivona at[email protected].
