Dear Parents,

The Terra Nova Test results for grades 3- 8 and a parent information letter are going home in this week's Friday folder.  As always, if there are any questions, please feel free to contact your child's teacher.  We were very pleased with the results of these tests.  The results will be used to further develop effective educational programming and to help us meet the instructional needs of individual students.  There will be more information regarding the Terra Nova in one of our January newsletters.

The season of Advent has been a special time of reflection, preparation and waiting for all of our students.  This week some of our waiting is coming to a close as we celebrate Las Posadas with our preschool and kindergarten students, attend the annual 2nd grade nativity play and close our school day on Friday with an Advent Prayer Service.  The prayer service will take place in the gym at 12:45 pm followed by dismissal at 1:30 PM.  (Reminder: No school Mass on Thursday this week). On behalf of the faculty and staff, we wish each of you the blessings of the season and a joyful Christmas with your family and friends.

Merry Christmas,

Kathleen O'Reilly

Principal

The Flu Finds at St. Brigid

Despite an increase in students and staff receiving the Flu vaccine this fall, the Flu virus has arrived. We have had several test-positive Influenza A and B cases reported. Our number of cases is still very low, but Flu "season" will be with us for several months.

What can you do to keep our numbers low?

  • Get the Flu vaccine if you haven't already done so. It is not too late!

  • Emphasize healthy habits - handwashing, adequate sleep, good nutrition

  • Be knowledgeable - info about symptoms and care for the Flu available at www.Flu.gov

  • Stay home when ill - students must be fever-free for a minimum of 24 hours to return to school. Flu virus often lingers for up to a week.

Let's do our best as a school community to keep our Flu cases to a minimum this year!

Christmas CARE Meeting

Last week we held our annual Christmas CARE meeting for the whole school. The eighth grade students led the discussion as they described the theme of the meeting, "Disciples on a Journey to Bethlehem." They discussed how Mary and Joseph, the shepherds and the Wise Men all made journeys in the Christmas story. They looked at the story of Christ's birth by listening to The First Christmas, and discussing what it was like for the shepherds and wise men on a journey to Jesus.

Then, each group discussed how they could use their gifts to help others. They then made two special scarves to be given to people who need them this Christmas.

The CARE meeting ended with a prayer service that the whole school participated in together.
