Dear Parents,

Thank you for your prayers and amazing support for my family with the loss of our mother. My mom was a wonderful role model of faith and truly dedicated to raising her six children in the faith.  This is also the beauty of our school community.....we are an extension of your family.  Parents are called to be the primary educators in the faith for their children and we at school support and enhance the faith and morals that are taught at home.  You have certainly felt like a large extended family to me over the last week so I know first-hand that our school community is truly a place of Christian love and compassion and for this I most grateful.

Last week I wrote about school safety and we had a good response to the question about offering an education evening with Officer Bruce McKenna. We will offer this session later in March.  More details when they are available.

This weekend is our annual Corks for a Cause fundraiser for our SPICE program.  Even if you are not able to attend this outstanding event you can still support SPICE by bidding online or purchasing a raffle ticket for your chance to win a year of tuition free for one student. View items and purchase tickets here. Thank you to our many sponsors who help support this event -- see below for a listing of them.

God's blessings on each of your families as you continue your Lenten journey,

Kathy O'Reilly

Lenten Speaker Series Continues

High School Youth Ministry, Young Adult Ministry, and Adult Ministry are offering a  Lenten  Series that will touch upon some of the issues facing our world today.  Join us in Hendricks Hall from  7-8:30 PM  on Thursdays during  Lent.

Each workshop will include a guest  speaker  presentation and an activity that will offer an experiential piece. These evenings are open to the community. Children in 8th grade or younger must have a parent/ guardian attend the evening with them.

March 1: Poverty & Homelessness
Poverty and Homelessness are almost always intertwined.  They also have many faces.  In this second of our Lenten Series we will look at homelessness as it is seen in the faces of those who are in prison.  Today, there is a great indifference to the plight of the incarcerated (and their families), and because of that indifference Catholic prison ministry  is needed more than ever!"  The American bishops, released in 2000:  Responsibility, Rehabilitation and Restoration: A Catholic Perspective on Criminal JusticeI highly recommend a reading of that thoughtful pastoral.  It can be found online. The bishops note that restorative justice must attend to the voices of victims and to those responsible for the crime. Our presenters for this evening will be Rich Northup from St. Brigid of Kildare who is involved in prison ministry and Sister Ana Gonzalez, OP.  Both will share their experience of doing prison ministry and how it transformed their hearts.  Thursday, March 1 in Hendricks Hall from 7:00 - 8:30 PM.   Each piece of the Lenten Series in independent so even if you can't attend all of them come from the ones that you want to learn more about.
