Dear Parents,

I recently read an article with a great Top Ten List that I would like to share with you.

Security Affects School Success
Top 10 Parenting Tips
  1. Help your child create a balanced schedule.
  2. Establish household routines to begin and end the day in calm.
  3. Show supervising interest in your child's homework and classwork.
  4. Be positive about school and learning:  Support teacher decisions and directives, and keep the lines of communication open.
  5. Be available to your child.  Stay emotionally alert.
  6. Keep your appointments.
  7. Be kind but firm
  8. Plan ahead
  9. Cultivate family spirit
  10. Make it clear that you do not expect perfection - that mistakes are a valuable part of life - but you do expect sincere effort.

When the daily functions of life can be put on automatic control, inner energy is available for the unpredictable events of the day enabling a child to deal successfully with stress.  Routines, procedures, and systems serve that purpose.  Security releases energy for reaching objectives, looking forward to the future, and having a reasonable confidence that all will be well.

Family rituals not only strengthen family bonds, but also help establish a sense of security in a child.  Safeguard "family only" times, such as Friday pizza and videos, hiking, camping,  or participating in a family charity.

Stay warm and safe and enjoy some family fun snow activities during this active winter weather!

EPIC Upcoming Events

January Meeting:

This weekend our EPIC youth group will host the Downs Syndrome Association of Central Ohio's (DSACO) school-aged social group. Our EPIC kids will be the hosts and big buddies of the kids with Downs Syndrome, and will lead each of the fun stations that they will visit, including games, an obstacle course, a dance station, and a sensory station. They will also serve snack to the kids and their parents.

As always, we will begin with 12:15 p.m. Mass by the baptismal font and then come to
Hendrick's Hall for pizza prior to our guests arriving. Pickup will be at 4:15 p.m.

Next month we will bring items donated from the Ash Wednesday food collection to the Dublin Food Pantry on February 25. We will weigh, sort and box the food, along with other items at the pantry. This will be a good introduction for our youth of what the Dublin Food Pantry does and how they can be involved and serve their neighbor through this organization in the future.

EPIC Registration:

If you have a child interested in joining EPIC, don't worry, it is never too late to join! EPIC is for all 7th and 8th graders of the parish. Simply go to the parish website at stbrigidofkildare.org, and select "Youth" and "Middle School Youth Group" from the drop down menu.
