Dear Parents,

Lent begins today, and for the next six weeks we will be observing the Lenten journey from Ash Wednesday to Holy Week.  During this liturgical season we learn that the importance of fasting, praying, and the giving of alms is always essential for Catholic life, but even more so during the season of Lent.  This is a time to prepare ourselves to celebrate the glorious Resurrection of Jesus.

As a school community we will spend extra time in prayer and reflection by attending the Stations of the Cross.  Traditionally, the Stations of the Cross are prayed during Lent to help us prepare and add meaning to the celebration of Easter.  You are invited to join us for the Stations on the following dates:

March 14,  2:00 PM
March 22,  2:00 PM
April 6,  2:00 PM
April 12,  2:00 PM

In closing, although family life can be very hectic, consider gathering together for a few minutes this evening to determine one way in which you, as a family will pray, one way in which you will fast, and one way in which you will give alms throughout Lent.  One simple idea is to set a family prayer minute.  You might set that minute for 4:00 in the afternoon.  At that moment every day - no matter where they are - members of your family bow their heads and pray for the same family intention.  These prayer minutes can then be logged onto the parish website   http://www.stbrigidofkildare.org/   for the 10,000 hours of prayer challenge.
Another way the family can pray, fast and give alms is by attending the parish Lenten Soup Suppers.  As an act of kindness during the soup supper consider making a donation to the Catholic Relief Services - Operation Rice Bowl. More details are listed in the article below.
The parish Lenten Soup Suppers and Stations are on the following dates:

March 7,  6:00 PM
March 14,  6:00 PM
March 21,  6:00 PM
March 28,  6:00 PM
April 4,  6:00 PM

Together we can make this Lent especially meaningful for all of the children.

Lenten Blessings,

Kathy O'Reilly

Lenten Soup Suppers and Stations of the Cross start March 7

As part of our Operation Rice Bowl: Building a Culture of Encounter, and our 10,000 Hour Lenten Prayer Challenge, we are offering Soup Suppers at 6 PM and Stations of the Cross at 7 PM on Tuesdays during Lent.

Soup Suppers will be offered on March 7, 14, 21, 28 and April 4 at 6:00 PM in the Immke Room of Hendricks Hall. Various ministries will provide the soup. We will also have a little information about a particular country helped by Catholic Relief Services. We will travel the world: Mexico, India, Ehtiopia, El Salvador, Zambia and Honolulu as we put a face on the people served through Operation Rice Bowl.

EVERYONE IS INVITED -- it is a wonderful way to share in a simple Lenten meal and encounter others. Guests are welcome to bring their own soup, or enjoy some of the soup that will be provided.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS are offered immediately after the soup supper. They begin at 7 PM in the Church. From the earliest days of Christianity, pilgrims journeyed to Jerusalem to walk in the footsteps of Christ's passion on the road to Calvary. More than 2,000 years later, Christians are still trying to grasp the saving gift of Jesus by meditating on or reenacting his crucifixion through what has come to be known as the Stations of the Cross. Also known as "Way of the Cross" or "Via Crucis" this private devotion has consisted of 14 stations, taken both from Scripture and tradition, since the 17th century when the Church officially approved the now common Lenten practice. You are invited to attend either the Soup Supper or the Stations of the Cross or both. - Katherine Florian and Sister Teresa Tuite, OP
Mother   Mary  Award

A group of 7th and 8th graders planned and organized an event for the Kindergarten Daisies and 2nd grade Brownies to earn the Mother Mary Award.  The older girls created activities centered around Mary saying Yes to God, Mary visiting Elizabeth, Mary as bearer of God's Gift of Love, Mary caring for Jesus and Mary rejoicing with Jesus.

Msgr. Hendricks blessed the Miraculous Medals which the girls received at the end of the event.
