No School - Easter Break

Dear Parents,

We are very excited to announce that Peter Pan, our 2018 musical, will take place this week.  Our middle school students and the creative team of adults supporting them have put together an amazing performance.  Please plan to join us for an evening of the arts if your schedule will allow. (See story and pictures below)

I would like to remind you that the deadline for submitting the FACTS paperwork to be eligible for both Diocesan and Saint Brigid tuition assistance is TOMORROW .  Please see the story below for more information. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call me at 718-5825.

Please note that the Easter Basket collection for Holy Family Soup Kitchen is NEXT WEEK .  Please help us fill the Easter baskets for all those served by the soup kitchen.  See the story below for more details.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the recent box top collection contest.  We surpassed our goal and the students have earned a dress down day for this Friday, March 16th .  Plan on wearing green to also celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

As our Lenten journey continues, please continue to cultivate kindness and pray for each other.

Lenten blessings,
Kathy O'Reilly

Peter Pan Jr. is This Week

March 15 th and 16 th , 2018
Robert D. Walter Family Gymnasium
7:00 p.m.

All are invited to a one-hour musical production based on the play by J.M. Barrie and the 1953 Disney film. T his is St Brigid's 13th production, with currently over 60 children involved in the cast and crew.

The cast was asked to reflect on how the musical made an impact on their personal development.  " I learned that I can do anything as long as I BELIEVE in myself," " The musical has given me confidence and courage.  I was afraid to and nervous to give my opinion and stand up for people.  The musical has made me proud of the talents God gave me and helped me see the good things in others." were just some of the answers our students gave.

Free will donations will be accepted at the performances to help support  Saint Brigid Performing Arts.

School Safety Event
An Evening with Officer Bruce McKenna

Saint Brigid School is offering an informal presentation to highlight some of the ways our school has prepared to keep our students and staff safe.  Please join us for a short presentation on  Monday, March 26th from 7:00 - 8:00 pm  followed by a Q & A session from  8:00 - 8:30 pm.

The presentation will take place in Enke Hall in the school.  Dublin Police Officer Bruce McKenna will review the principles that have been taught in our school and also to local businesses.  These principles can be utilized in any setting.  While it is unlikely that you will ever need to use these techniques, we realize the more prepared you are the better.  It is also important for you to understand the techniques your children are being taught.

March 15: Hunger
One of the great needs across the world in hunger.  It is in every country and in every village and, town and city. Sometimes it effects entire countries and sometimes it is a hidden reality.  There are two kinds of hunger, spiritual and physical.  Both are experienced by every human being but for some the lack of adequate food and drink is at critical proportions world-wide.  Hunger is often brought on by war, greed, excessiveness of some that cause inadequacies for others.  Often those who are well-fed are not even aware of those who are under-fed in their own local communities.  In our Lenten series this week we want to heighten our awareness of the needs of both hungers.   We do need an RSVP for this session of our Lenten Series.   Please, call the Parish Office (614-761-3734) and register by March 12.  You can also email  lginikos@stbrigidofkildare.org  or  ttuite@stbrigidofkildare.org .  It is very important that we have an accurate number.  Our speaker will be Erin Cordle who serves the Office for Social Concerns of the Catholic Diocese of Columbus, Ohio, as Catholic Campaign for Human Development and Catholic Relief Services director. In this capacity, she serves as an educator and advocate to further the understanding of the Church's social justice teachings.  Thursday, March 15 Hendricks Hall 7:00 - 8:30 PM

Special Red Cross blood drive held for Bishop Watterson  student battling leukemia

The community is invited to give blood in honor of Troy Stemen at a special American Red Cross blood drive held in his name  Sunday, March 18, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Northwest Chapel - Grace Brethren Church in Dublin.

Troy, a 16-year-old sophomore at Bishop Watterson High School, loves sports and computer games. He is known for his upbeat, positive attitude, and he has become a strong fighter. In May 2017 he was diagnosed with leukemia. Troy has received blood transfusions during his treatment and may need more.

Troy's family and friends are organizing a blood drive in his name to raise awareness about how important blood donors are in the treatment of cancer. "We hope all those people who have been affected by cancer will donate at this blood drive," said Peigi Fisher-Hanson, a Stemen family friend. "There is a strong community here in our schools and many who want to see Troy and others find a cure."

"There are so many reasons why someone may need blood that we don't even realize," said Janelle Bowman, donor recruitment account manager for the Red Cross. "We take for granted that blood will be there at the hospital when we need it, but it can only come from generous volunteer donors. Giving blood in Troy's name is a wonderful way to honor him and potentially help others with his condition."

Every two seconds in the United States blood is needed to respond to patient emergencies, including accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease. The Red Cross must collect nearly 14,000 blood and platelet donations every day for the patients at about 2,600 hospitals nationwide.
