No School - Spring Break

Dear Parents,

This is a big week at St. Brigid!  Plan to visit the BOGO (buy one get one free) book fair and stock up on favorite books for spring break reading.  The book fair is open this evening until 6:00 pm if you would like to stop by after work.  The second big event is our amazing annual Spring musical.  This year our young thespians are performing Seussical which includes the Whos from Whoville, the Cat in the Hat and Horton.  The school dress rehearsal will be at 1:15 pm today and evening performances will be on Thursday and Friday evening at 7:00 pm.

I would like to remind you that the deadline for submitting the FACTS paperwork to be eligible for both Diocesan and Saint Brigid tuition assistance is TODAY.  Please see the story below for more information. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call me at 718-5825.

Please continue to pray for each other and for our children during this Lenten season....and of course log your time on the parish website!

Lenten Blessings,

Kathy O'Reilly

STEM Take-Apart Day

Kids love to take things apart to see how they work! That is exactly what a group of St. Brigid students did in the STREAM Lab during the Take-Apart Event last weekend. The SBK Robotics Club, and the 6th grade class first learned about using basic hand tools like pliers and screwdrivers. These students then had a chance to take apart old laptops, boom boxes, and even a filmstrip projector!

Several members of the St. Charles Robotics Team (the CardinalBots) came in to share their tech knowledge with the St. Brigid students. Included in this group were St. Brigid alums William Sweatt and Jack Denihan. By the end of the afternoon the CardinalBots had taught everyone about circuits and potientiometers, and had repurposed old speakers to work with new cell phones!

When taking a break from all the deconstruction, students participated in a Sphero programming challenge designed by Mrs. Westendorf. The younger kids got to take the lead and teach the CardinalBots how to steer the Spheros using an iPad.

Many thanks to the CardinalBots and their Coach Mr. Moyer for an awesome visit! Thanks also go out to our parent volunteers Shannon Hollis, Jim McCaffrey, and Nancy Chiarotto-Haney. All that thinking makes you hungry... thank you to Linda Dupuis for providing the snacks.

St. Brigid parents... hang on to that old technology. Both Mrs. Asencio and Mrs. DeSocio are looking forward to taking things apart again soon!

Blood Drive in honor of parishioner JJ Thomas

On Sunday, March 19 from 10am-3pm, Grizzell Middle School will host a Blood Drive and Swab-A-Thon in honor of parishioner JJ Thomas. JJ was diagnosed with Leukemia in November 2016. Over the last four months, JJ has received numerous blood transfusions and he will continue to need them throughout his treatment plan.

We invite everyone to donate in honor of JJ. He is a seventh grader at Grizzell Middle School and a St. Brigid of Kildare parishioner. He has been very involved in the parish programs such as religious education, EPIC, SPICE fitness program volunteer, football player and basketball player.

Even if you have not donated before, we hope you will consider it. If it has been awhile since your last donation, we encourage you to donate again as the American Red Cross is in constant need of blood donations. JJ is counting on donors like us to help him be #JJSTRONG!

To sign up for an appointment, please visit redcrossblood.org

Lenten Soup Suppers and Stations of the Cross
now through April 4

As part of our Operation Rice Bowl: Building a Culture of Encounter, and our 10,000 Hour Lenten Prayer Challenge, we are offering Soup Suppers at 6 PM and Stations of the Cross at 7 PM on Tuesdays during Lent.

Soup Suppers will be offered on March 7, 14, 21, 28 and April 4 at 6:00 PM in the Immke Room of Hendricks Hall. Various ministries will provide the soup. We will also have a little information about a particular country helped by Catholic Relief Services. We will travel the world: Mexico, India, Ehtiopia, El Salvador, Zambia and Honolulu as we put a face on the people served through Operation Rice Bowl.

EVERYONE IS INVITED -- it is a wonderful way to share in a simple Lenten meal and encounter others. Guests are welcome to bring their own soup, or enjoy some of the soup that will be provided.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS are offered immediately after the soup supper. They begin at 7 PM in the Church. From the earliest days of Christianity, pilgrims journeyed to Jerusalem to walk in the footsteps of Christ's passion on the road to Calvary. More than 2,000 years later, Christians are still trying to grasp the saving gift of Jesus by meditating on or reenacting his crucifixion through what has come to be known as the Stations of the Cross. Also known as "Way of the Cross" or "Via Crucis" this private devotion has consisted of 14 stations, taken both from Scripture and tradition, since the 17th century when the Church officially approved the now common Lenten practice. You are invited to attend either the Soup Supper or the Stations of the Cross or both.

For more information, please contact Katherine Florian ([email protected]) or Sr. Teresa Tuite, OP ([email protected]).
Kindway Matters
7pm on March 23rd in Hendricks Hall

You are invited to an evening of compelling testimonies full of inspiration and hope from those whose lives have been impacted by incarceration. This event, facilitated by Christine Money, will also offer a unique shopping experience by making Kindware available. Kindware is a variety of handcrafted gifts made by incarcerated women and men to support their incarcerated brothers and sisters as they transition to freedom. The messages you will hear will move your heart and may encourage you to explore social justice further.

For more information, please contact Laura Butsch ([email protected]) or Sr. Teresa Tuite, OP ([email protected]).
