Dear Parents,

The days of Lent are almost over with Holy Week beginning on this week-end with Palm  Sunday.  We have observed the Lenten practices of prayer, fasting and almsgiving by reaching out to help others in our community and beyond.  I also hope reading the book  Wonder as a family during the season of Lent has inspired members of your family to have empathy for others, dare to be different when necessary and to always stand up for what is right.  The story of Auggie and his classmates is also a reminder to be KIND even in the face of adversity much like Jesus did during the days that lead up to His crucifixion.

Next Wednesday will be our last day of school before Easter break.  We will conclude our day with a Lenten Prayer Service at  12:45 PM on  April 1st and early dismissal at  1:30 PM.

Holy Week Blessings,

Kathleen O'Reilly

Principal

Flynn and Cooper Joining Us

Exciting news!  Flynn Chiarotto-Haney and Cooper Williams, therapy dogs, will be joining us at St. Brigid of Kildare on a regular basis.  Cooper and Flynn will be working with our kindergarten through 4th grade students in a variety of settings.  They will work with kids during small reading groups, one on one and within the classroom.  In addition Flynn will be joining the 5th grade as they explore what it means to be a therapy dog versus a service dog.

Cooper is a three year old Goldendoodle.  He has completed seven weeks of behavioral training and seven weeks of therapy dog training.  He is a certified therapy dog by Therapy Dogs, Int, certified Canine Good Citizen by American Kennel Club and a participant of TDI's Tail Waggin' Tutors Program.

Flynn is an Ohio born, two year old goldendoodle.  He has been certified as a therapy dog with Therapy Dogs International since he was one year old.  He is a regular and popular volunteer at a nursing home in Worthington where he spreads love, smiles and lots of licks.

Fundraising Project from an Alum: An Update
A couple of months ago,  St. Charles senior, Gabe Lawson, brought attention to our students about the plight of children in the Garbage dump communities of Nicaragua and Guatemala.  This summer 33 young men from St Charles will travel to assist these communities.  9 of the 33 students are members of St Brigid of Kildare parish.  A fundraiser for the mission trip is being held on  April 1 .  All locations of Yabos Tacos will be hosting a Dine and Donate event.  15% of all food sales will be donated to the St Charles International Samaritan Trip.  Please use the flyer found at this link to give credit for the event.

A note from Gabe ....

St. Brigid of Kildare School collected $2,715 for SC Cares. The goal set was $100 per classroom, for a total of $1,800. For the students to significantly surpass the goal was both inspiring and very generous. Within two weeks of this collection, I was notified that a student named Ana Sofia was granted the first SC Cares Scholarship to attend the local university to study law.

I am very grateful for the St. Brigid school community's support, and I hope that they realize the impact they have all made in the life of another.

Sincerely,
Gabe Lawson

Deadline for Ordering Books Extended

Local children's book illustrators, Jeannette and Christopher Canyon visited our school on Tuesday, March 24th and shared their art and music with our students in kindergarten through fourth grades. Each class will attended two 45 minute long presentations by this talented husband and wife team.

Many students who had not previously ordered a personalized, autographed copy of their beautifully illustrated picture books (some include a music CD) asked if we could extend the deadline for ordering.  Therefore, we will accept orders until Wednesday, April 1st.  You must fill out the order form (link below) and return it to school by noon on April 1st.  Books will be autographed and returned to students 3 weeks after that. More information about their books can be found at their extensive website, www.jeanetteandchristophercanyon.com.
