Dear Parents,

Yesterday we will be celebrated our student athletes who have participated in winter and spring sports.  Several of our 8th student grade leaders shared personal testimonies about what they learned from participating in team sports.  Following this recognition,  the annual 8 th grade vs. Faculty volleyball game took place.  All students and staff enjoyed these spirited events.

Tonight we have Student Led Conferences for our students in grades 3, 4 and 7.  This opportunity allows both the student and the parents to review and celebrate a year's worth of spiritual growth and academic learning.  Next week we will proudly graduate our 19th class of 8th grade students on Wednesday evening at 6:00 pm.  Our last day of school will be June 1st and the day will begin with our annual 9:00 am Leadership Mass and teacher and staff recognition.  Please join us in prayer and celebration if your schedule allows.

As the end of the school year is rapidly approaching, we begin thinking about the calendar for the next year.  A few dates of note are  "Parent Administration Day" and "Meet The Teacher" for grades 1- 8  which will both take place on Monday, August 21st  from 4:00 - 6:00 PM.  Incoming kindergarten students will also have WOW Day on August 21st and 22nd and kindergarten parents will be receiving detailed information in the mail regarding this program.  The 1 st day of school for  2017-18 will be August 23rd.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend and remember to honor our men and women who have served and continue to serve in the U.S. armed forces.

Sincerely,

Kathy O'Reilly

Five Finalists in Letters About Literature Contest

Daniel Frommeyer, Akshay Mapadath, Thomas Matthews, Zoe Musselman, and Owen Samunek, sixth grade students from Saint Brigid of Kildare School, were chosen as state finalists in the national Letters About Literature writing contest. These students were part of the 175 students chosen from the 1,338 submitted letters that advanced after being judged at the national level by the Library of Congress staff in Washington, D.C.

The national writing contest is open to students in grades four through twelve in all fifty states. Students from public, private and charter schools enter the contest, with thousands of entries and participation from each state in the U.S. The annual contest integrates the English Language Arts learning standards with an authentic writing opportunity that allows students to express their personal feelings about a book and its effect on them in the form of a letter to the author. What comes from St. Brigid sixth grade students are interpretive reader responses that delve into their personal experiences, and how reading a book has shaped their larger view of the world, their lives, and their impact on others.

Congratulations to all our 6th grade readers and writers on a job well done! And a special congratulations to our state finalists.

Summer Garden Help Needed

As the students leave for a summer break, our school garden will continue to grow! Wondering how your family can help?  No green thumbs required to pitch in on the tasks of watering, weeding, and harvesting.

There are 2 ways to be involved:
  1. Sign up as a family to cover the garden for a particular week -- come on days and at times that fit your schedule... maybe 2-3 times during your week.

  2. Sign up to receive periodic group emails to notify you when "Papa" Jack Rekstis will be in the garden with specific tasks in mind.

Our students have connected with the garden in so many ways this year... researching, planning, planting, sketching, singing, tasting, and just enjoying. Now, help keep the connection growing!

Cub Scouts Collecting Worn Flags

Recruiting New Cub Scouts
Boys entering 1st through 5th grades

St. Brigid Cub Scout Pack 117 is looking for boys who will be entering 1st through 5th grades in the 2017-2018 school year.  All boys in these age groups, whether a parishioner or student at St. Brigid are welcome to join.

The Scouting program teaches youth to be good citizens of their community, to be responsible to their families and reverent to God in a "Fun with a Purpose" atmosphere.

Joining this spring will entitle each youth and their families to participate in many summer activities including a weekend campout with archery, fishing, campfires and the like, building a float for the Dublin Fourth of July parade and walking in the parade, participating in the summer day camp, and much more.

If you are interested in joining the nearly 60 boys currently in the Cub Scouting program at St. Brigid, contact Cubmaster Jeff Leach at 614-761-2826 or email him at [email protected].
