Dear Parents,

Today at 1:15 PM in the gym we will be celebrating our student athletes who have participated in winter and spring sports.  Following this recognition, the annual 8th grade vs. faculty volleyball game will take place.  All are invited to attend these spirited events.

We are very excited about our summer renovation project for the science lab, computer lab and library.  We will periodically need volunteers to help with painting, packing and unpacking books and materials, etc.  Please check the 'STEM Construction Updates' quick link on our website for photo updates and updates on volunteer needs.  Also, during the summer we will be "renovating" our school and parish websites.  We're excited to have a whole new look when school opens again!

On Friday all students will receive a Summer Solutions math workbook and a summer reading letter. These helpful materials are important in order to continue math and reading practice during the summer months. Please see the story below for more details.

As the year draws to a close, next week on Tuesday, June 2nd,  I would like to once again invite everyone to attend our closing School Leadership Mass at 9:00 AM.  As Mass concludes our 8th grade students will be transferring the responsibilities of school leadership to our current 7th grade.  Following Mass we will be recognizing our school staff who has served 5, 10 and 15 years at our school.  The day will close at 1:00 PM with early dismissal (Please note the change from our regular 1:30 PM early dismissal).

The 2015 - 16 school year will begin with Parent Administration Day on Monday, August 24th from 4:00 - 6:00 PM and "Meet The Teacher" will take place during this same time frame.  The first day of school will be Wednesday, August 26th at 8:00 AM.

We welcome Ms. Anne Smith to our faculty for the 2015-16 school year.  Ms. Smith will be teaching 6th grade religion and 5th and 6th grade English Language Arts.  We say good bye and best wishes to our Spanish teacher, Senora Marisel Quintero and to 5th/6th grade teacher Mrs. Nicole Brinkman, who is doing well and has moved back to her home in the Chicago area. We also send best wishes to Mrs. Teri Squillace and Mrs. Sherry Chaisson, both classroom aides who are retiring this year.

Sincerely,

Kathleen O'Reilly

Principal

8th Grade Scholarship Winners

We are so proud of our many eighth grade students who have received scholarships and awards to begin their high school years.

We are happy to announce the additional scholarships awarded to our Saint Brigid of Kildare eighth grade students:

  • Noah Schnegg: Aquinas Scholarship Award (a one-year award being used at Bishop Watterson)
  • Lauren Kannally: Gene and Ken Ackerman Scholarship (a multi-year award)
Art Club Paints Piano

Saint Brigid of Kildare Art Club students spent the weekend painting a piano that was donated by a Dublin community member to the Dublin Parks and Recreation Association. The City of Dublin had a variety of pianos that they wanted painted, so they reached out to Dublin groups and organizations for their help in painting them. Eight St. Brigid Art Club students worked with visiting artist Amy Yaich to select a theme and paint the piano. They decided to illustrate sites of Dublin past and present for their theme. They used the book Dublin's Journey as a source of inspiration for the paintings.

Students involved in the project were Mandy Flanagan, Julia Flanagan, Colin Thompson, Megan Thompson, Emily Kovalchin, Roberto Gonzalez-Garcia, Julia Egelhoff and Camille Marquart.

Summer Fitness Program is a GO!

This summer St. Brigid of Kildare parish will offer a series of active events for children ages 5 to 10. The goal of each session is to provide one hour of physical exercise in a non-competitive setting.

In addition, the program leaders will be sensitive to kids with special needs, so no one is excluded from fitness!
Projected activities include yoga, line dancing, obstacle course running, introductory jiu-jitsu, and more.
There will be no charge for families to participate in the program, and parents must remain at the events, which will be held on the St. Brigid grounds.

Watch next week's Wolfhound Wednesday for specific dates and times and the link to sign up.

Nursery Volunteers Needed
To all our families with small children:

We only ask you to volunteer your time as well to help other families enjoy this Ministry.  We are currently welcoming new volunteers to help with 9 am and 10:45 am Mass times. The nursery will be open as volunteers are available.

We need your help to make this ministry a consistent success!  Please contact Sonia Aina-Steinbauer at [email protected] for information on becoming a volunteer in this valuable Ministry.
