Dear Parents,

All Saints day invites us to reflect on the kind and courageous actions of the saints and how we can model our lives based on their example.  More than ever, in today's struggling world we need to find as many ways as possible to spread messages of kindness and respect. With this in mind, we announced today to our students in grades 3 - 8 that we would be boarding nine buses on November 20th and taking a journey together to see the movie WONDER adapted by the book written by R. J. Palacio.  The themes of kindness and courage are both portrayed beautifully in this book and film.

(See movie trailer in story below)

We read this book several years ago as a school community. It is time to revisit the timeless themes and lessons of discipleship taught so beautifully in this book,  by using the opportunity to view the film together and begin our own "Choose Kind" campaign in the school. Our school campaign is being kicked off with a generous gift of kindness from a friend of our school community who is funding the movie tickets and transportation with a monetary gift to our children.

While the movie is rated PG and best suited for our students in grades 3 - 8, our students in P - 2 will be enjoying a picture book version of the novel and will be joining in the "Choose Kind" campaign. Our teachers will be offering students many different opportunities for discussions, reflections, and projects to continue to bring the themes of the book and the movie alive in our own school.

I am excited about this occasion for our community to reinforce so many positive life lessons.  We have an amazing opportunity to continue to build a common understanding of how kindness and respect impact others and how we can make our community a better place by being Christ-like and inclusive in our thoughts and actions.

May the blessings of St. Brigid be yours on this feast of All Saints,
Kathy O'Reilly

Altar Server Training is Nov 5
All students in the fifth grade and older are invited to become Altar Servers for the Weekend and Holy Day Masses.

Is the Lord calling upon you to serve?  Answer the Lord's call by becoming an Altar Server!  St. Brigid of Kildare is encouraging all those in fifth the grade and above to consider becoming an Altar Server. You will have only one evening class to attend, one short section from the Liturgical Ministry Manual to read and study, and three mentoring sessions with an experienced Altar Server. Do this and you are ready to be scheduled as an Altar Server. It is a rewarding service!

Our next training session for Altar Servers is November 5, 2017, Sunday afternoon in the Church from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm.  Please register by November 1st, so we can be prepared to welcome you.
