Dear Parents,

During this week before Thanksgiving I would like to take a minute to say thank you on behalf of the faculty and myself for the on-going support of our school families. We thank God for the many blessings He has bestowed on our school and parish.  We have many wonderful and generous families who help us to build a nurturing and faith-filled school community.  We are thankful to our School Advisory Committee, Home and School Association, SPICE and our Athletic Association who work diligently to advise, generate funds and organize volunteers to provide many wonderful programs, activities and opportunities for our students and staff.  We are thankful for our students who show us each and every day how to continue to work on our "journey of discipleship" by their kind and generous hearts.    I would like to invite you to join our St. Brigid family for Mass on Tuesday, November 22nd at 9:00 AM.  We will gather together to praise the Lord and thank him for our many gifts.

Following Mass our students will enjoy our annual Thanksgiving Feast during our regularly scheduled lunch periods.  The tradition of 8th grade students serving the delicious turkey meal is enjoyed by both the 8th grade and the younger students.

We will conclude the day by celebrating with our fall athletes at a pep rally beginning at 2:00 pm in the gym. Parents are welcome to join in the fun!

With gratitude,

Kathy O'Reilly

Keep the conversation going is weekly feature designed to keep up the dialogue that began with Dr. Sax's presentation on The Collapse of Parenting. We'll share resources to help guide parents in today's socially and technologically complicated world.

How can parents take away electronics at night?

The research is clear: when kids have screens in their bedrooms, it interferes with their sleep. A study found that children ages 6 to 18 had an 88 percent higher risk of not sleeping enough when devices were in the bedroom.

The research shows that most  teenagers are sleep deprived, thanks to a variety of reasons including devices.
The reason that electronic devices interfere with sleep is because the light emitted by those devices is like a wake up call to the human brain. Specifically, the light prevents a hormone called melatonin from building up in the brain. It's this nightly production of melatonin that enables us to fall asleep. The bottom line: When parents take away electronics at night, they're helping to ensure this natural sleep process can occur, so their teenager can get a decent's night rest.

Annual Fund: Did You Know?

Every year our students in 6th through 8th grade are blessed to have the opportunity to participate in a spring musical. Thanks to our Annual Fund, many of the musical expenses are covered or supplemented, such as musical score, back drop, props, costumes, dress rehearsal dinner and the final cast and crew party.

Last year's musical Shrek Jr. was a huge success! The dedicated cast and crew of 56 students rehearsed for 10 weeks. In addition, 14 talented student artists assisted with the back drop and props. Shrek was director Maricel Frommeyer's 12th musical production at St. Brigid! It was enjoyed by students, faculty, family and friends free of charge.

Thank you for your support of the Annual Fund! Be sure to watch for information regarding our next musical Seussial Jr. coming in March 2017!

Will you participate in this year's
St Brigid Gifts of Gratitude Program?

What is it?
Gifts of gratitude was established by the Home and School Association as a united effort to provide a generous monetary gift to every school and parish teacher and staff member at Christmas and the end of the year to thank them for all they do for our children.

Why participate?
  • This is a convenient way for families to make sure that each teacher, aide, and staff member who touches your child's life is recognized for all they do at St. Brigid.
  • Instead of several small gifts from each student, each teacher and staff member will receive a monetary gift that they choose how to use--whether they want to splurge on themselves or help with their own family's expenses.
Will my family be recognized for participating?
Yes -- the teachers and staff will receive a list of families who participate in this program.  You may also let the teachers and staff know that you participated in the program by marking "G.O.G" inside your Christmas card.

How much do I give?
The suggested annual gift amount is $25 per child; however, any given amount is graciously accepted!

How to participate:
  • PayPal:  Log onto www.paypal.com, choose "send money to friends and family", enter the email address [email protected] along with the total amount of your contribution, and complete the transaction.
  • Check: Send to school with your child, payable to "St Brigid Home and School," in an envelope marked "Home and school Gifts of Gratitude".

Please send contribution by December 2

Thanksgiving Meal Donations Needed

Our EPIC students would like to invite parishioners to donate a Thanksgiving meal to a family in need in our community. Our students will deliver the meals directly to the homes of recipients on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, November 20. No cooking is necessary. A shopping list will be provided and the approximate cost is $50. Thank you in advance for your generosity.

If you would like to donate, please contact Kim VanHuffel at [email protected]. If you are able to drop the box off at the St. Brigid parking lot on November 20 at 2:30 p.m., we will have middle schoolers there waiting to help unload the box from your car and reload it into a delivery vehicle. Alternate arrangements for drop off can be made. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

If your child is planning to attend EPIC on November 20, please be sure you RSVP to Kim so we can make sure to have enough room for all of the kids in the drivers' cars. Thank you!
