No School - Christmas Break

Dear Parents,

This past Sunday we began a new liturgical year with a special time of prayer and preparation with the season of Advent.  Advent is a time to prepare our hearts and souls to celebrate the birthday of the Messiah.  There are 4 weeks in Advent and the 1 st Sunday of Advent is a good time to talk with your children about the importance of waiting and watching for Jesus.  We wait and watch for opportunities to respond as disciples to the needs of others, we wait and watch for moments of prayer and we wait and watch for ways to keep focused on the true meaning of Christmas. Each morning we start our day at school with a prayer for the lighting of the Advent candles.  If you would like to learn more about the season of Advent the USCCB website is a great resource.   http://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/liturgical-year/advent/

One way to spend time in prayer and preparation is by attending one, two or three days of the parish mission (see details below).  Our students in K - 8th grade will have the opportunity to have a 30 minute session on Monday, December 5th, with our guest preachers, Sr. Ann Willits, OP and Rev. Jim Marchionda, OP.  Please consider making a commitment as a family to attend our parish mission as a part of your Christmas preparations.

Next week we will also be having a food drive for the Dublin Food Pantry to help stock the pantry shelves for the busy Christmas season (see details below).  We are linking this opportunity for being generous with our gifts to the greater community during our December Advent-themed CARE meeting.  Our CARE meeting will take place next week, the week of the Feast of St. Nicholas, who is known for generosity and secretly gifting those in need. We also will be on the lookout to see if St. Nicholas will stop by our school and deliver candy canes for all of our students!

Advent Blessings,

Kathy O'Reilly

Join Our Advent Parish Mission Dec 4 - 6
"In the Tender Mercy of Our God"

Every moment of the Advent Parish Mission will be supported by scripture, story, sacred song and dynamic preaching as Sr. Ann and Fr. Jim invite all of St. Brigid of Kildare to trustingly bask "in the Tender Mercy of Our God."

Since the beginning of time God has been trying to convince humanity of Divine tenderness, compassion, and a mercy beyond imagination. Jesus Christ, heralded for centuries and born among us as one of us, embodied living proof of God's faithful forgiveness and unconditional love. In this grand 21st century church of ours, His Holiness Pope Francis epitomizes what God has been trying to teach the world for ages and ages.

We will be visited by preachers, Sr. Ann Willits, OP and Rev. Jim Marchionda, OP - Dominicans who wholeheartedly embrace this glorious gift of God and refreshing, joyful vision and witness of Pope Francis.

Sunday, December 4, 2016 - Tuesday, December 6, 2016
7:00 PM each evening in the church
The last evening will end with a prayer concert in the church followed by a social (to meet the preachers) in Hendricks Hall.
We will also have available books and CDs authored by the preachers.

Gifts of Gratitude Donations Due THIS Friday

What is it?
Gifts of gratitude was established by the Home and School Association as a united effort to provide a generous monetary gift to every school and parish teacher and staff member at Christmas and the end of the year to thank them for all they do for our children.

Why participate?
  • This is a convenient way for families to make sure that each teacher, aide, and staff member who touches your child's life is recognized for all they do at St. Brigid.
  • Instead of several small gifts from each student, each teacher and staff member will receive a monetary gift that they choose how to use--whether they want to splurge on themselves or help with their own family's expenses.
Will my family be recognized for participating?
Yes -- the teachers and staff will receive a list of families who participate in this program.  You may also let the teachers and staff know that you participated in the program by marking "G.O.G" inside your Christmas card.

How much do I give?
The suggested annual gift amount is $25 per child; however, any given amount is graciously accepted!

How to participate:
  • PayPal:  Log onto www.paypal.com, choose "send money to friends and family", enter the email address [email protected] along with the total amount of your contribution, and complete the transaction.
  • Check: Send to school with your child, payable to "St Brigid Home and School," in an envelope marked "Home and school Gifts of Gratitude".

Please send contribution by December 2

Men's Inception Retreat - Dec 9

From parishioner & St. Brigid parent Sean White:
I am humbled to be the MC at this year's St. Brigid Men's Inception Retreat on Dec 9th held at St. Therese Retreat Center. There is room for 50 men at this 1 day retreat, that personally changed my faith life in 2010, after about 10 yrs of taking up space in a pew. More on that at the retreat!

We'll have dinner, hear a lay witness talk from 2 of our parishioners, have some talks with our clergy, fellowship, and a few other parts ending with 5pm Mass on Saturday, home in time for parties and back with the family.

You'll have your own room and meals, coffee, snacks are provided. The theme of this retreat is "becoming a better version of yourself".

I'd like to invite you to attend. From my experience, it's a great way to end your year and prepare for the next. Nothing but good things come out of this 24 hrs. It's a short, impactful time to awaken, renew, or grow your faith.

Click here for the registration form.

Bring a friend! Hope to see you there! Sean White, Parishioner
