Dear Parents,

We had a great time yesterday announcing our 2nd National Blue Ribbon School Award.  Our surprise Blues Clues assembly was a big hit with the students.   Needless to say I am very proud of our students and all of our staff.  We are dedicated to working together with the belief that every child is a gift from God.  We are committed to ensuring that each child is provided with a variety of instructional approaches and meaningful experiences to reach his or her greatest potential as a Catholic citizen.  This is our formula for an extraordinary academic and faith-filled school...a Blue Ribbon School. (See more details and pictures in the story below).

Today we joined together as a community for a Pink Mass as a day of remembrance for victims, survivors and caregivers of breast cancer and other forms of cancer. Students were encouraged to pray for families and friends who have been touched by cancer and to wear pink to raise awareness.  You are also invited to attend the Diocesan-wide Pink Mass which will be celebrated tonight at St. Andrew parish at 6:30 PM.

Thank you for your enthusiastic participation in our first round of Student-Led Conferences. It was great to see students and parents having important conversations based on goal setting, high expectations and working to be a good disciple.  Job well done!

Thank you for your support and blue ribbon well wishes,

Kathleen O'Reilly

Principal

We're a National Blue Ribbon School For the Second Time

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan yesterday recognized 337 schools as National Blue
Ribbon Schools for 2014 based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. These schools demonstrate that all students can achieve to high levels.

Saint Brigid of Kildare School has been named a National Blue Ribbon School for the second time in just six years. To announce the exciting news with our students, we held a surprise
assembly yesterday at 2 p.m. (after the 1:30 p.m. announcement), with a surprise visit from Blue -- the dog from Blue's Clues (a popular children's show).

Blue, along with Principal Kathy O'Reilly, Principal Cindy Lombardo, and Monsignor Hendricks helped lead the students through a game of Blue's Clues. Students spotted three large clues hidden among the audience--the number 2 (to designate how many times we've won the award), Washington D.C. (to signify where the award comes from), and azul (the word blue in Spanish). We then had the mail call, which was a letter from Washington D.C. delivered for Monsignor Hendricks to read. After reading the exciting news to the students, the mail came again, but this time to Principal Kathy O'Reilly. Ms. O'Reilly open the envelope to find blue ribbon bead necklaces, which were then passed out to each student.

Secretary Duncan made this announcement live via the Department's USTREAM channel http://www.ustream.tv/channel/education-department at 1:30 pm and was viewed by recognized principals, teachers, and students assembled across the country.

We'll be releasing details soon on a Mass of thanksgiving and celebratory reception in recognition of the award.
